Description

Trade Tanev this offseason and keep all the high-end prospects in Utica (or other leagues) until at least after the trade deadline. Ask Edler if he'd be willing to waive to go on a playoff run with a contender at the deadline, then re-sign a short term deal with Van in the summer.

One more year of tanking and a lucky ping-pong ball could see Jack and Quinn Hughes, Petterson, Dahlen, Juolevi, and Demko make the jump next year to the bigs.

Even though they would be taking on Martin's contract, I still don't like the idea of the Leafs' giving up a 1st for most anyone, especially Tanev. As well, it's pretty much a done deal that Ottawa will draft Jack Hughes, woops, I mean Colorado

I can see Toronto taking on Tanev, I think the Edler trade may not be too realistic. I can see them moving hutton for next to nothing or flipping guddy at deadline

The Leafs trade Martin's contract and get half price on Tanev for a first and 3rd? Yeah the Leafs are thanking Benning big time and saying, "Hey we'll owe you one." That deal is awesome for the Leafs, would make next year even easier considering that is the cap crunch year they are facing. They could afford their big three and Tavares this season easily enough and still afford an upgrade on the blueline (Tanev would be perfect), however, next year they will be in a big bind (The year after is easier again since Marleau comes off the books.)
