Description
CDH addresses the LD issue, I hope
Centers in Stasny 1C but bozak, placks, and daneault could play up and down the 2c-4c
Penalty kill will be better with placks and grabner
grabner and some decent centers will add to the goals total. D will be better with Webber back and CDH will secure it with another year of improvement for mete and Juulsen.

The shorter contracks will allow us to re-sign patch and bring up Kotkaniemi proper and not have to rely on him to be nhl ready and damage his development. Keeping Benn is good for the PK and he is a big body at a low cap hit.

Now this is not the ideal solution, i would like to see a better 4th line but bringing along the young guys

Logan shaw over Scherbak? I would like to see De La Rose in the lineup somewhere, he had a good 2nd half and could prove to be a useful 3-4

Or, and this may anger some Canadien fans, but how about a rebuild. Tavares has already said no and the closest thing you have to a first or 2nd line centre is about 3 years away from cracking the lineup (The finish kid you just drafted). The Canadiens could do a fairly quick turn around but they'd have to trade everyone over 25 that they can get a return for and aim to be competitive in 2-3 years. Or they can spin their tires for the next 2-3 years and then be in a worse position since there is no way you could trade Weber or Price by then since they will be rapidly diminishing assets on huge contracts.

either or would be fine my logic was that shaw is a better 2 way player than scherback and delarose but that line and the thrid line could be used for bring along the young guys like them, delerose would be a 4th liner as well as i dont see him being any better than anyone on the thrid line for that role. So other than the one position on the forth line did it look decent?

A re-build could be a good idea but the man at the top clearly isn't the guy to do that. Also the team I outlined is better than the 2016 team that finished first in the Atlantic. It is better defensively, offensively, and special teams wise. Last year was bad but with a heathy (hopefully) Webber, the upgrades and a bounce back from Price and patch to where they normally play i don't think a re-build is totally necessary. Also the fact that the montreal market would have no stomach for it. Its easy to be a habs fan outside of Montreal for me much more than when i lived there.

Even if they are an improved squad from 2016, the rest of the Division is vastly improved as well. Toronto, Tampa, Boston and Florida are superior teams than Montreal (Especially Toronto if they get Tavares) and on top of that Buffalo will improve as well. The above Montreal team won't make it into the divisional playoff picture, they'd be a wildcard team at best and that would be extremely lucky. I feel bad for Montreal fans, they are like the Leafs team after the lockout. Just not good enough to make it but they'll keep spinning their wheels and offering false hope.
