Carolina and WPG definitely say no.

Not sure what is going on in NJ cap wise but they may value Clowe's LTIR credit.

Trouba's coming off a poor season and his contract demands are excessive. Winnipeg has Hutchinson in net and Comrie in the minors. JVR is the best player in this trade. Winnipeg needs a LW. It could happen.

I think they'd be more inclined to move Hutch and keep Hellebuyk/Comrie.

Ask yourself this. Why do you want Trouba if his demands are excessive and he is coming off a "down" year? Your answer will be why WPG keeps him vs this deal. I think you need to add a good piece from TML and take hutchinson instead.

You want Trouba because he is 22 years old, has upside, and the Leafs would be buying low. I like this trade.

If I'm the Leafs I want the younger goalie with the higher ceiling. There are better options than Hutchinson, whom the Marlies made look pretty ordinary a couple of years back in the playoffs.

Fact: Michalek is not going to waive his NTC to go to Carolina. Fact: Lupul is not going to waive his NTC to go to NJ. Since Lupul is often injured he is on the LTIR often, giving the Leafs cap relief.
Lupul may needed to for salary purposes to be exposed in the expansion draft. He probably wouldn't be taken but Vegas is just 120 miles from his Malibu home, so he would likely waive his NTC
I don't think both teams like the Winnipeg deal. Jets think Hellebuyck is their goalie of the future, and probably believe Trouba is a good player to keep....regardless of his so called salary request...he's an RFA.
JVR is a UFA in two years, and he won't resign with Winnipeg (I know he can be traded). From the Leafs view, right now they have three young goalies and do the trade they add Hellebuyck and Bernier too. And is Trouba really that good?
Looks like the Leafs have 3 RHD going in to next season, with Carrick, Corrado and Zaitsev....combined will be making less than Trouba.

Check your facts. Michalek can provide a 10 team no trade list. He can be moved to 19 other teams without his consent. Lupul is, for all intents, done in Toronto. If he wants to continue his career (he may not) he will have to accept a trade. He has a 14 team trade list, meaning he can be traded. He has spent zero days on the LTIR this season. He is on the IR, which does not provide cap relief. Yes, he could be exposed in the expansion draft but I get the feeling the team wants him gone asap. If he can be traded for someone who qualifies for LTIR relief that gives us that much more cap space to swing deals, like the Winnik trade last month where we leverage our cap space for draft picks and prospects.

Right now, including prospects, the Leafs have exactly two right handed defensemen, Carrick and Corrado. Zaitsev would make three but that is hardly sufficient organizational depth at that position. Trouba would slot into the depth chart ahead of Corrado and Carrick.

I don't understand what you are saying about the goalies.

Ok and if I'm the Jets I also want the younger goalie. They don't have to trade. It has to be fair for them. They are rebuilding too.

So you answered my question. Jets have no reason to trade Trouba. He is 22, has upside, and his value is low on the trade market apparently. They want more.

I don't entirely disagree with you there. Hellebuyck may be off limits.

I still think a swap involving Trouba and JVR makes some sense for both sides, much the same way Seth Jones for Ryan Johansen made sense. The Leafs might have to wait a bit and see how the threat of the expansion draft shakes up the goalie market.

Thing is RyJo can play the middle and has been a bit more productive. JVr's contract is attractive. I would try to move him for a lower cost return.
