Description
Decided to throw together a bunch of current rumors. Wasn't really sure on the trades, figured this would be a good starting spot, prospects can be changed and draft picks added.

Backes is a straight salary dump for any team looking to get to the cap floor, substitute any team and compensation for Arizona.

Rumored that the bruins were interested in Pageau for 3C. Again not sure on the trade compensation but a decent starting point.

Two years 6 million seems to be the asking price for Kovalchuk.

If Panarin won't commit long term to Columbus they may be forced to move him before he leaves for nothing. Considering Columbus is pretty stacked defensively I went with three forwards. Debrusk was top 6 forward as a rookie. Heinen played in the top 9 and JFK has top 9 if not top 6 potential. Maybe this is enough to make Columbus pull the trigger?

That top 9 fowards would be filthy, possibly the best forward group in the NHL. Defensivly Chara and Carlo would be the shutdown pairing. I'm hoping Vaakanainen will be called up sometime during the year. Krug is now able to get favorable match ups and quarterback the power-play. He would also have the ability to skate with McAvoy if more offense is needed.

The biggest issue with this would be the salary cap with Panarin, McAvoy, Carlo and Donato up after the year. With Chara and Mcquaid coming off the books that frees up nearly 8 million. Miller only has 1 year left and could be moved to free up around 11 million total. (Also Krug would have 1 year left and could be moved as well). Considereing Panarin already makes 6 mill he would only need an additional 2-3 and Donato wouldn't need a big raise either. Hopefully Sweeny could get McAvoy and Carlo to take bridge deals until Krug and Kovalchuk are off the books freeing up more money.

Obviously this isn't perfect but imagine if the Bruins could get this or something close!

I've seen rumors that teams are actually interested in Backes. I don't think he's as much of a cap dump as fans make it out to be.

Even if other teams are interested in him, why would he be interested in other teams? Especially a team like Arizona?

Not sure he would to be honest. I def don't think he'd be interested in ARZ. Who knows though, I think as fan we tend for forget that these players are humans with families and there are many many factors that go into a players decision beyond just chances of winning a cup and contract.

Not bad. I don't totally hate this (though I'm not a fan of giving up that many high-end prospects, Panarin is worth giving up a healthy chunk for).

I think you find that extra cap space by trading Krug. If you think Vaakanainen is making this roster, they didn't sign Grzelcyk to be a 7th D-man at that salary and after the year he had. He and Miller worked really well together. I think you put Chara with McAvory, Vaakanainen on second pair with Carlo (both are mature, sound defensively, and not huge risk takers) and keep Grzelcyk with Miller, and mix and match as necessary depending on the situation with that bottom 4.

I'm curious why you went with Koppanen though. Haven't heard a ton about him, but curious what puts him above some of the other available wingers.

I totally agree, and that's exactly why I doubt he would authorize a trade anywhere. He lived for so long in St Louis, and the nature of the contract that he signed ( NMC for first 3 years, backloaded with signing bonus to prevent buyout) seems to signal that he wants to stay put for the duration of this contract. Unless he and his family have a problem living in Boston, I doubt he would leave a potential Cup contender for a team that could afford to actually take his contract (i.e. Arizona, Carolina, Buffalo etc).

Probably not unless he felt like he was no longer wanted in Boston. I think he'd accept a deal to a team closer to MIN/STL, but IDK that either team would be interested in him without Boston retaining. I know he and his family did struggle to adjust to Boston his first year here, but he also said that the organization did a great job helping him transition to being in Boston. I think if Backes gets moved it'll be after next season when he goes to a NTC.
