Description
Karlsson Trade: the problem in Ottawa as of today is what the heck do they do with there first round pick this year? With this draft being such a deep draft trade down to 10 isn’t a bad idea. The 2019 first is for taking on the Lucic contract. The oilers need a power play quarterback on the blue line right away and there’s no better than this guy. With trading for the #10 overall pick this now makes the choice easier for Dorian: Give the the pick to Colorado.

With the 10th overall pick I think the Sens will draft a centre. Joseph Veleno of the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Veleno has had the weight of the world on him for 3 years now and Ottawa can help die it down. Send him to junior for a year and watch him out of some magic numbers.

With the 22 overall pick the Ottawa Senators select Ryan Merkley of the Guelph Storm. Top 10 pick talent who has some series growing up to do, why not try and fix him? Again u can take some pressure off him by sending him to the OHL for another year and tell him to play some defence or he isn’t getting his rookie deal for a while. This is a risky pick but Dorian clearly doesn’t mind taking high risk, high reward players. A power play specialist and someone who can feed Veleno and Jack Hughes... I mean, mark stone for years to come

It was already speculated yesterday on twitter that Edmonton is on EKs no trade list.

@frank_seravalli
believe the #Oilers are one of the 10 teams on Erik Karlsson's no-trade list. Hard to say with 100% certainty as these lists change and they can change at any instance. Aside from figuring out how EDM pulls it off, my impression was a few months back it was a non-starter.

might be a hard sell for Edmonton to have EK waive his NTC and sign an extension there

I'm sorry, but Lucic is a non starter for me. Bad contract with 5yrs remaining, and questionable character. Why would we want to do that? Not to mention he probably doesn't want to come back east. If we go through all this pain, and trade Erik, I would far rather purge the team of bad deals and any remaining bad character.

It wasn’t something I thought off, but if Dorian can get a first out of that contract from Edmonton why not

I don’t know why he wouldn’t want to go there. He would immediately be the power play quarterback and make that team a contender. Plus McDavid! Passing passes to Matt Duchene or McJesus? I think it’s something he would at least consider

Some 1st round picks work out and some don't, but that contract is guaranteed.

What contract? The 1 year Karlsson has left? I think the rift between him and the organization is to large to fix. I know first round picks don’t always work out but that rift has grown through out the year

I was referring to the Lucic contract. I agree that things may have happened that will cause Erik to leave, but I'm saying if that happens I would rather see them get rid of bad deals rather than take back a bad deal. I'm not saying Lucic is a terrible player, but he is overplayed, same as Bobby Ryan. So dump Ryan's contract with the Karlsson deal, even if it means getting less return. That leaves the goalies contracts, and the Gaborik contract as the remaining worst deals. Gaborik's real money goes down big time next season, so if he doesn't qualify for LTIR, then use him when you can this year and buy him out next year. I say this knowing that the owner is watching every penny. The cap floor will be higher next year, so you have to hang on to some deals, and I do think the goalies will be better, as will Smith.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing to take on those contracts. U have to reach the cap floor. It’s part of rebuilding and the Ryan contract is only 4 more years. U still have $20 million in cap space
