Apart from the Fluery trade this is all doable, for this year. What happens next when Laine, Connor, Myers and Wheeler all need contracts for next year? Someone is going to have to be traded. Honestly the more I look at it, perhaps trading Connor or Elhers for cheaper secondary scoring may be a smart idea.

Myers, and Perrault would be the first to go, and in this scenario you could lump Statsny and Gagner into that crowd. You don't trade your primary scorers for secondary scoring. The logic in that is completely backwards. A 3rd pairing dman who makes 5.5mill has absolutely no business being on a team for any extended period of time, regardless if he's actually a 1st or 2nd pairing RHD playing behind the incredible hulk of the nhl and the Jets' top defenseman who also happens to be 24 years old. That just means if we choose to trade Myers this year he'll get us a late 1st.

In this scenario I think you look at trading Perreault and Gagner after the 2018-19 season. Perreault has 3 years left at $4M that is a big number. You take a year off that term and all of a sudden it looks more appealing to teams. Same goes with Gagner. After the 2018-19 season Mason's big contract comes off the books as does Myers. So that is $9M+ to put towards Wheeler and Laine.
