There's a lot of fantasy-style wheeling and dealing here, but I would say the most unbelievable is Jonathan Quick. With his affordable deal and lots of term left, until the Kings start any sort of rebuild, he's untouchable.

I would almost counter and say that’s too much for Quick. Lee is a 40 goal scorer, Nelson is usually pretty consistent for 40+ points, and Sorokin is one of if not the best goalie in the KHL and will come to North America in two years. If LA is legitimately serious about adding scoring I’d think they just might wanna consider that proposal

Have you seen LA’s cap space? And a lot of guys in their 30’s. They are extremely close to a rebuild. Please explain how these are fantasy-style deals? A 27 y/o 40 goal scorer, a RFA center who consistently puts up 40 points a season, and the best young goalie in the KHL is one hell of a haul for an aging goalie at almost 6 mil AAV.

Thought about adding a 2nd rounder from LA, but I knew it wouldn’t go over well. tears of joy

I could honestly not care less what either the Islanders or Kings did this offseason, aside from the Jon Tavares will-he-won't-he resign saga. As I said, until LA commits to a rebuild, there is no way they are letting go of all-world goalie, who is on a great contract. The only way I see LA trading Quick is if they could get a goalie of either equal value or a goalie prospect like Thatcher Demko (VAN) or perhaps Carter Hart (PHI) who might be ready to immediately step in a steal the show - and even that would be a major gamble. When proposing these blockbusters, people need to try and consider what the needs are from both sides. If LA makes a trade like this for scoring, how in the world are they going to find a Quick-level goaltender to take over starting duties?

As I said, until LA commits to a rebuild, they would need a starting goalie to immediately replace Quick as their starter. They have a couple decent goalie prospects in their system, but there is no eye-popping starter in LAs system at the moment, so any deal they made for Quick would need to provide them immediately assurances they were receiving a replacement back. That is why I would look to Philadelphia to try and setup a 3-way deal to include Carter Hart, though I am not sure how available he would be.

How about the best goalie in the KHL? Who is 10 years younger than quick and will be on an ELC FOR 2 years. LA gets cheaper and younger. Isles sell the future for the now. Good enough for team needs?

That would be a huge gamble. Even Carter Hart, Thatcher Demko, or another high-level goalie prospect would be a big risk. If you were looking for a good starting goalie with a fresh start, I would think Jake Allen would be the prime candidate. Perhaps Columbus would pounce on the deal you offer for Bobrovsky, but his deal expires after next season. I just don't see LA moving Quick anytime soon unless you could figure out a third team to provide them some immediate starting goalie security.
