Description
Does VGK make this deal for a 30G scorer rookie in Kyle Connor? Winnipeg is going to have to move one of Connor, Ehlers, Perrault, Roslovic, Wheeler etc. as they can't afford to keep all the guys at wing. Initially the idea was to trade Roslovic ++ for Glass but VGK likely want a more proven prospect in the like of Kyle Connor whos floor is a 30G scorer. Thoughts?

If VGK wouldn't move glass for that would would it take?

Winnipeg can absolutely afford to keep everyone.

Little has a NMC clause and is not going to waive it to go play for Montreal.

Move Kulikov, and Perrault. They make too much for players that are not in the top 6 or top 4, and would absolutely be top6 and top 4 other places.

Move Copp, Tanev, and Dano, because Appleton, Lemieux, and any guy we pick up off the free agent market for league minimum can do their jobs just fine.

In what world do you trade a rookie 30G scorer + pieces for a prospect? If you do insist on moving Connor, move him to a team with serious draft assets like NYI, and take a 1st, Bellows and Pulock or something like that.

Sign Laine to 9x8, Wheels to 6x3, bridge Connor and we're all set to Buff comes off the books and then we're really working with cap space.

Vegas would accept that deal before Chevy got the words Eric Comrie out of his mouth. Connor is the real deal and Myers can stay long term. Jets would move Perreault, Kulikov, Mason or Little before they let go of a core player.

I wouldn't even dream of trading Connor straight up for Cody Glass.

I liked this until you said Laine making 9M a year. No way is he going to make that. He isn't the Jets best and with Scheif's making 6.125M, it sets the bar. I can see laine making 7 for 8 years tho...

The market sets the bar. At the rate young stars are getting signed for (Eichel, McDavid, Draisaitl, Tarasenko, and so on) 9mill is pretty reasonable. Keep in mind if he keeps this pace up and has a career as long as Ovechkin's, it's pretty likely he surpasses his stats. Laine definitely needs to work on his two-way game, but we're dealing with a league where you pay for offense, and generally (not always) get a discount on good defensive play. I hope to good we sign him in the 7-8 range but that's a bigger bargain now than the Ehlers deal was back when he signed.

You are right about the organizational value of Scheifs' contract. I think Scheifs sets a precedent if we resign a guy like Statny that we won't go over 6mill, and likely would be closer to 5mill, and Wheeler extension will have a similar discount relative to UFA market value, but that's all speculation.

Eichel, McDavid, Draisaitl are all not comparable to Laine in that they are C's. McDavid is the absolute top of the league so the ceiling is there and Laine's no where near that. As for Tarasenko that's actually the most compareable to Laines. He likely comes in around 7.5-8.5 but that all depends on him and how well Chevy Negotiates!

I truly hope you are right! Whatever happens I think Chevy has all the cap and assets to make this a fun next couple of years.

This is why Chevy needs to resign him as early as possible...Esp before Matthews is resigned.
