More chances to get high picks helps future a lot. Right now even with dalhin I doubt they make the playoffs. It’s not like toronto where 6 rookies are added matthews, nylander, marner, hyman, brown and zaitsev with 30+ point seasons. Dalhin isn’t going to get you from last place to a playoff spot.

No but the rest of the team will. They dropped Kane added Mittelstadt and Nylander, McCabes healthy add Dahlin and Nelson. They have a couple holes to fill but dumping their core isn’t the answer. Even if they were they wouldn’t trade Dahlin, and if they did it would be for A LOT more than that. If the Sabres have cap space to take on a short term bad contract, I’m all for it. Between Reinhart ROR and Risto, only one if any will be moved

I am as optimistic as you. A healthy McCabe and Bogosian automatically improves the defense, trade O'Reilly for another defenseman add Dahlin and it is almost a completely changed defense. Mittelstadt, Rodrigues and maybe Nylander, Bailey and Baptiste will add offensive punch as well. Then if Pilut, Olofsson, Pu, Aspland etc. can join the team the following year, it could be very interesting.
