Description
Before people (especially Palhal) crap all over me for $13mil for Stammer.... It's only a 5 year deal.Pay him for 5 years. The kids all have 3 years entry level and then you bridge all / most of them. They don't get paid big until at least 5 years from now. Stammer can be around to lead and set the example for the kids and get paid huge. Then it's a bonus if he resigns after that at a low cap hit to support the kids 6 years from now.

If 13M gets you Stamkos for 5 years, then that is a deal they absolutely have to make, whether palhal likes it or not. This young team will need a true leader to guide them in the right direction. Anyways with all the contracts they got rid of they have plenty of space for the foreseeable future to spend big on a guy like Stammer. Within those 5 years you have all your current big contracts coming off the books anyway. Stammer isn't worth 13M but he's worth whatever it takes for the Leafs.

How do I get involved in this? Anyway, I have heard from a good source, that Stamkos is coming to Toronto. The deal has been done. Not that I necessarily agree but.
My preferred scenario would be to wait two years and then possibly make the big UFA signings of Price and Tavares.
If Stamkos comes, I'm thinking that Stamkos and Nylander are one/two centres. Maybe it's best to keep Bozak as a three/two. Seem like a lot to give up for Trouba. Is he really that good? But Kadri looks like he would be the out man out.
Like the idea of a five year deal. Let's imagine the deal goes through, and at the end of it Nylander is a star, making 10m Stamkos is declining but takes a 2 or 3 year deal making 7m. He would still be better off than the Tampa deal, and he is being the captain of a Stanley Cup winner in Toronto. Gee at the end of it, the Leafs can spend that Stamkos money and sign UFA McDavid.

PalHal, I didn't mean anything negative by it... You have just been very vocal about them not signing Stammer and thought you would be dead set against $13mil for him (at least until I explained it was only 5 years).

You're probably right that it's too much to give up for Trouba, but I want a right shooting dman to play with the lefty Rielly for years. I'd personally give all that up for him, but I could be dead wrong that he's worth that or is that good.

Leafs1793, really like the thought of the 5 year. Starting in 2017, the Sens have the honour of the Phanuef contract, so that certainly did up open space, and you're right it might be time for Stamkos.
I know you "didn't mean anything by it". Me, maybe me more than others, has an opinion.

Don't let F50marco read this, but he's a Hab fan and if likes it, maybe as Leaf fans we should be warywink Just kidding, F50marco is one of the more reasonable analysts on this site.

My older sisters went down to the Leaf Stanley Cup parade in 1963. I have a black and white picture of the Cup being held over his head by George Armstrong (it's a far away shot). So in a year or two, we'll get together and have a walk down the Cup route. What street do you prefer, Yonge, Bay or University?
