losing a center to gain another one makes no sense from our perspective. Danault is kind of our only real center right now...

That's a wheel-spinner for Montreal and Edmonton. Neither team gets much from it. RNH is better than Danault, sure, but he would also replace him in the lineup. Is that JDLR? Poehling?

It's not that the deal isn't fair and balanced, it just doesn't do much for either team.

RNH has never surpassed 56 points. As much as we need a C I'm not sure I'd give up the potential for Zadina as well as Scherbak who will undoubtedly play in the NHL next year. Both could score 20 goals while RNH will put up another 50 some points. I'd prefer a bigger deal involving Draisaitl.
3rd overall and a 2nd round pick and Pacioretty for
    Draisaitl and the 10th overall.

This actually isn’t a bad deal at all. Imo though I don’t see Bergevin moving the 3rd overall pick where we get one of the elite level wingers (zadina or svechnikov)

I dont think the Oilers would do that deal drai is locked up for 7 more years and can only get better I see us moving RNH before we even scratch at the idea of moving drai

Danault is not for sale. He's not a world beater but he is the only player in our current lineup capable of handling a prolonged top 6 C role. We need to add another C, not just upgrade on him. And definitely not if the cost includes the 3OA pick.

Nope. Poehling had a great D+1 year, we're very excited to see how he develops. If it's RNH straight up for Poehling or with a small add from Montreal (maybe Byron), then sure, but I don't see Edmonton wanting to do that.

I think MTL is giving up too much in this deal.
#3, Sherbek(MTL has been patient with him and I dont think they should be trading him now), and our really only actual center(Danault) for RNH, Jones(wont be NHL ready for 2-3 years), and the 10th.
    So it's:
    - 3rd for the 10th and Jones(long term prospect)
    - Danault and Sherbek for RNH?(that doesn't seem fair to Edmonton)
Doesnt really make sense for MTL or Edmonton to do that as posted above, MTL moves an NHL to gain a center then are still stuck with a 1 actual center. YES RNH is better but this still doesnt address the Center depth that is MTLs real problem.
Too me this is a win for Edmonton as they lose a center(which they have lots of), but gain a good 3rd line center and a highly skilled Winger with the 3rd, plus a highly skilled developed Winger in Scherbek(could work out being a good scorer or could be in the KHL in 2 seasons) and MTL gains a 1/2 Center, a long term D prospect, and who knows with a 10th overall pick(probably Ty Smith or that Finnish C, both are a few years away from making an impact)

I don't like Danault as anything but an emergency #2C. He's a natural replacement for Pleks, which is the #3C role on a good team. But I don't want to trade him unless Habs have another plan for that #3C, like Riley Nash or trading for Sheahan.

He's been an "emergency #2C" for two years and done a solid job despite his offensive limits. He seems to gel well with Pacioretty which is a big reason for it to be so, err, successful. If we deal Patches, then I could see his numbers dropping a bit but I believe he can continue serving as a 2C for another year even though he'd ideally be more suited for a 3C role. If we get Riley Nash or Sheahan, that shouldn't change Danault's role as he's better than either of those guys.

I am of the belief that Danault's great year was mostly a product of Radulov, who did the heavy lifting in terms of puck carrying. I think Danault is a smart player, but a weak one. Without hard support on the wings, I don't think he can carry a 2nd line.

Definitely agree on that he needs strong wingers to drive the play if he's being slot in as a 2C although despite not having Radulov on his wing and Patches having a down year, Danault was still able to put up practically the same PPG as last year so he is not completely dependent on his wingers being offensive dynamos. I don't like him with Galchenyuk and Gallagher, and him and Drouin seem like a terrible mismatch which limits the options for his linemates in the 2nd line but then again I did like a lot what I saw with him and Hudon (who I expect to have a breakthrough year in the next season) so there is hope for him to still deliver in a scoring unit even if we lose Patches. I also think Zadina, if we draft him, would complement Danault's game a lot too.
