I might be wrong on this, but you might have traded with Montreal. Might be more than no trades. I'll double check and get back to you on that.

I don't see the point in giving Maroon nearly $3M to be a 4th-line winger. If he was pushed down by a playoff rental then it makes sense, otherwise it's an odd move. Also, giving Carlson big money to play 2nd pairing is a bold strategy. Might want to bring up a spare forward too. Riley will make a lot more than $1.7M, maybe consider moving some of Maroon's money to Riley and find a different winger to fill Maroon's void.

There's a lot of UFA money being thrown around here, and any fan should be uncomfortable with those dollar figures getting chucked around when Johansson, Zacha, Butcher, Mueller, a backup, and a #4C need to be signed the next season all while needing new deals for Hall, Hischier, Vatanen, and Galchenyuk the year after. I can't see the salary cap exceeding $84M the offseason they're all due. You won't be freeing up enough money by finishing some of those buyouts either.

I'm not a diehard Leafs fan, but I've paid enough attention to them over the past 3-4 years and I feel justified in saying that JVR should not make more than $5M this offseason. He's wildly streaky and defensively useless. I'd really want to have him signed for as close to whatever Grabner gets this season. JVR isn't one to use his size and any term associated with him is risk after the next 2 seasons. Whatever team decides to cave and give him the 6x6 he wants will regret it in the long run.

Maroon didn't play 4th line, I don't think they should resign him but he didn't play 4th line all year on either team. John Carlson would be the best D man on the team. Mueller isnt getting a hefty deal if he can even crack the lineup for most of the season and will butcher is a bottom pair, PP specialist who they don't need with Carlson and Vatanen so they could move him while his value is somewhat high.

In all fairness, he couldn't crack the lineup most of the season due to injury and further recovery from said injury while we were in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Right I just don't don't think he's going to get a significant deal without showing he's a legitimate NHL D man which he has not thus far.
