Taking on Salary (PIT/ WSH/ NYI)

Équipe: 2018-19 Sabres de Buffalo
Date de création initiale: 1 mai 2018
Publié: 1 mai 2018
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
TRADE DESCRIPTION: WE NEED LW
PIT: PIT saves some salary and picks up a cheap 6th D that might have his career revived (again). Could play the PP1 with Schultz. Extra pick to entice. Hagelin is the definition of speed on the wing and has done well in a DZone heavy line deployment role due to his ability to transition ability.

NYI: I think I've made this trade 70Billion times, and it still makes sense.

WSH: WSH cant afford to let Carlson walk. So they swap 23yo and 37 yo with Buffalo and pickup 3.4M in cap space without losing roster body. Carlson is 4M right now, plus 3.4 brings you to 7.4 which is getting real close to what you need to give him on an 8 year deal. Not to mention Tom Wilson also needs a raise. Burakovsky still struggles for minutes on WSH, and I think this deal helps both sides. Again, BUF gets speed on the wing and a guy that can thrive with Jack.
-------------------------------------------------------
LINES
F1: The Eichel Line. Zemgus Girgensons produced like a top6 with Jack. Burakovsky could be great with him
F2: The insulator line. Heavy DZone deployment to shelter F1 and F3. ROR and 2 speedy wingers to win key faceoffs, great transition game, and flip the ice. Im against trading ROR for right now, just because he makes other lines better because he is so all-situation
F3: The "per60" line. I'm talking this line only gets like 14Min in heavy OZone deployment schema. Mittelstadt produced a league high P/60 at ES in the small sample he played at this last season. Okposo is a bull down low, a veteran presence, ERod provides off-wing speed.
F4: Checking 4th line with speed.

P1: The Rasmi. I'm hearing a lot that Dahlin can come in and be top4 right away. I think this pair can be pretty damn good given Risto's ability to clear the net and Dahlin's ability to exit the zone whether it be via pass or taking it himself.
P2: Support the P1. Heavy DZone deployment. Bogosian actually had a +3% relative corsi with 56%DZ Deployment last season, and with a steady partner like Scandella I believe its worth it to hold off on the buyout for now. If he gets hurt, Nelson slots in
P3: A different dynamic. Guhle and Nelson can move the puck well and maybe can get some good match ups as a bottom pair playing only 15Min a night, and taking some of P1s OZFo situations to level ice-time.

Goalies are... goalies so therefore its very random.

I thought about this a lot. Thanks for your time.

Nice moves. But Hagelin might not even move. He's good. And he's still affordable even though his deal could be cheaper. Pens fans mostly just trade him on here, because the extra money goes a long way in signing someone like JT or JVR or something.

Solid stuff, love the trades, but I'll hold out on 5 stars because the goaltending could absolutely melt down and ruin this team.

Also - do you think Reinhart will opt for a bridge deal or the 6yr one here? Just curious to hear your perspective

I think it will depend on the money he is offered per year. If they offer him 5.5 to 6 mil per year then I think he would take a long term deal. If they only offer him 3.5 to 4 mil / year then I think he takes a bridge deal.

I think the team would be wise to go term, not sure about Reinhart but the team holds most of the leverage. Term gets you past the inevitable mega Dahlin deal and cost certainty. Not to mention mittelstadt.

I went with the middle of the Drouin/Horvat deals. Those are the two best comps. Fair for both sides.

Also, I thought about adding Grubauer to the WSH deal and balancing it out with something on BUF end. Just got lazy lol

Caps pass. Isn't worth losing a young top 6 forward just to lose Orpik for 1 year. There's plenty of room to resign Carlson.

The idea is that you get a young 4/5 for your guy who is a fringe top6 and save cap space. But what do I know, all of these cap trades always make the ACGM boards buzz bc no one wants to accept that sometime their team is going to lose a trade bc of cap ?

Agreed, but I don't think people realize just how much room the Caps have. They actually have a good chunk of space, plenty enough to resign Carlson, especially if they trade one of Holtby or Grubauer and/or buyout Orpik.

Looking at their cap I’m not sure where the math is adding up especially if you assume Wilson gets 3.5-4M but oh well.

What about a Scandella for Bura and Orpik half retained deal?

No especially if they have to eat half of Orpik's salary. At that point they could just buy him out and save more money. Caps are set at LHD: Orlov, Djoos, and they probably resign Kempny.

Really nice. As a devils fan i can say taking on contracts for picks and other compensation is a great idea to get out of a rebuild.

This team could probably make the playoffs imo. Maybe add Scandella to the WSH trade and get back Grubaer just to solidify the goaltending? Maybe try a Kinkaid deal from NJD?

At this point I might just sig Lehner to a 2 year deal for low AAV

Agree with the poster above that goaltending is the big hole here. D will also need to gel fast or the season will be another bust.
