I like Craig Smith, but would prefer a younger player in return for Staal.
I would not trade Brodin for Gardiner...not in a million years.
I can actually see why Chicago (and the Wild) would be interested in that trade, but can't see it ever actually happening.

My god i hated ennis. He had this terrible tendency to stickhandle into the corner away from defenders/also away from the net- when he was a young winger. Then he got moved to center and played marginally better, but his stats were artificially inflated because he got prime minutes on a tank team. He then got that stupid contract because he was young, fast, and put up 20/40 in a pond hockey system. There was some hope that he could be a useful third liner in a real system behind better forwards, but nope, the offense dried up when he was given structure by a better coach and he lost the prime minutes. Thats as objective as i can be.
