Galchenyuk

Description
MTL gets a top pairing puck mover to play with Shea Weber.

Galchenyuk gets a fresh start.

Brouwer and Shaw get scenery changes. CGY retains on Brouwer to get his contract to $3.5M.

Lazar and Kylington sweeten the deal. Shaw has 4 years left on his contract, Brouwer only has 2.

Pick swap to even the deal. MTL has four 2nd round picks in 2018 and would do well to use one for a top pairing dman.

We are not trading chucky, too skilled and now too important for our offensive. We need more goal!

As a Hab fan i think theyre getting good value for Galch here. The Habs need goals though, and trading one of our best forwards isn't helping with that.

That's where the whole Tavares pursuit thing comes in. Defense is the 2nd largest problem in MTL, behind finding a #1 center. And it doesn't seem like management in MTL cares to give Galchenyuk that spot.

It's a nice thought, but i highly doubt Tavares, in his prime, would go to montreal in the midst of a rebuild/retool. Would be amazing if he did though!

Haha what part of chuck is elite? Jw. No arguments about potential but he’s elite? He’s not a top 50 player and he’s elite? You might be able to argue top 50 but elite is a term for top 20 or top 15. He’s a good player but far far far from elite. Don’t get butthurt bc I’m saying she’s not elite he’s good not elite

a former 3rd overall pick, whose play has been hampered by injuries. he was top 10 in scoring last season before he got injured. and this season with the habs, his defensive game has taken major strides, and despite being on the worst offensive team in the league, he put up 51 points. he is an elite player, and honestly is the most talented forward after drouin on the team. and even if u argue that he's not elite, he's worth a lot to the canadiens. why trade him for a bunch of 3rd liners. this team is trying to get younger. why trade a young player like him?? makes no sense for mtl. brodie is great, but pretty sure mtl will acquire a lhd in a pac trade or draft one. shaw is infinitely better then brower, and we have him signed in his prime years. kylington is great, but not a first pairing D. lazar is a borderline bust, and at most is a 3rd liner. we dont need any bottom 6 players. we need top 6 players and top 2 defensemen.

I agree that trade isn’t good but chuck isn’t elite. Like I said he’s a good player maybe great on Montreal. Also draft position means little yak and Brett Connelly are great examples. I think a better way to look at him is He has elite potential and for that I would hold onto him if I was Montreal

Uh, you did notice TJ Brodie in the trade, right? Played top pairing in CGY in Giordano before Hamilton came along, and very, very capably. And the fact that CGY would be taking on 4 more years of Shaw in exchange for just 2 years of Brouwer, at a cheaper price?

So just in case you missed it: you're getting a Top 3 dman to play with Weber, a late 1st rounder (Kylington's current value, also gives much needed D prospect depth), a late 2nd/3rd rounder (Lazar's current value), and cap savings / half the years off a contract that MTL regrets a year after signing with Shaw. I will remove the pick swap to clean it up a bit more.

I firmly believe that's right in line with market value for a young, very good forward. Even a Top 3 pick. Don't forget that Hall for Larsson is the freshest market comparable. Or JVR for Luke Schenn. Or Johansen for Seth Jones. Brodie is better than both Larsson and Schenn. Hands down. He can skate, pass, and is useful on the PP. All things that jive with helping to improve scoring, not to mention helping to get better usage out of Shea Weber before he crosses over into his late 30s (2 years from now).

yes i noticed tj brodie. he's a good defenseman, but unless ur adding more to that trade, we;re not trading galchenyuk. thing is, we need a center. if we trade chucky it will be for a top 6 centermen. and i like shaw. i like his intangibles. and what he can do. plus he is only 26, and loves the team he plays for. what u need need to understand again, is that we need goal scoring, and we need centers. we're not getting any of those with this trade. infact, we're giving away goal scoring and talent. kylington could be a top 4, but he's not a top 2. same for brodie. we have mete coming up, and juulsen is capable of playing both sides.
