Even though habs are desperate for a LHD doubt they’d want injury ridden Sekara and his contract

Carlsson is a massive overpayment. Yes, at 66p he's worth it but this is a career year for him and he's very unlikely to repeat on a different PP unit

Haven't we learned in a cap era, overpaying for a players(s) is just leads to long term futility. Especially for Carlson who probably doesn't want to leave the East Coast. A roster of 20, just 2m in cap room, shows even this roster doesn't work. Sekera can't be traded (if at all) for any return.

Both Russell and Sekera have NMC, Doubt either is willing to waive for Montreal and Ottawa.

You would have to pay a 1st only for Sens to take on Russell´s contract...and then adding Hoffman to the deal? Try to add another 1st and Yamamoto or Bear.

Same thing with Sekera, you´d have to pay to get rid of the contract.

In what world do the Sens give up Hoffman for Russell and a 1st? Yikes.

Caps outbid the total price at an aav of 7.44 over 8 years, front loaded more because more term allows that, so Carlson banks more total savings at the end of seven years, once you count inflation, at which point if he thinks he has another big contract in him at 35, he can pull a Kovalchuk and get it in Russia. The Caps fans there know his name. The top GM used to be his teammate.

So you can go higher than the deal the other Oilers fans are already saying is bad for Edmonton and outbid Washington, or you could talk to them about a sign and trade scenario. I think they have no top center prospects, and few at right D, and Edmonton has so much depth it would hardly notice Yamamoto and Bear for a guy who, in his career year, is indeed going to get some Norris votes. The worst that happens is Carlson says no, and that can happen either way, so why get him at a 9M cap hit (and still risk getting outbid) when you could get it down to 7 and get it done ahead of free agency, for prospects?

Yes, most years Carlson has less than 60 points. But he hasn't played with MacDavid and Draisatl, yet.

Not just that, but Carlson doesn't help their overall defense. He doesn't even play the most even strength minutes on his team.

In all honestly I’m just hoping Chiarelli asks for Sekera and Russels no trade clause lists and move them, ya Sekera had a rough season but the seasons prior to that he was worth every penny, so moving him just for a 2nd and a 3rd pick with a team not losing anyone the other way doesn’t seem impossible. I used Russel cause Ottawa is a mess on D especially if Karlsson leaves, and the 1st round pick from Edmonton is what they would want especially if they are rebuilding and Edmonton is going to have a high pick. As far as over paying for John Carlson? The guy has been a stud D his whole career and is about to get paid his biggest contract, he’s definelty worth anywhere between 7 to 9 and Edmonton needs him bad, the only reason I even moved Russel and Sekera was to bring in Hoffman and Hutton, you could get Carlson with the cap space that Edmonton has already and so minor deals for some cap relief.
