Description
So I read a rumor on bleacher report saying Murray is not available. The sources come from multiple gm's saying the were interested in our young prospect but JR turned them down. Thank god! If Murray is really the goalie of the future why trade him just to keep a struggling and embarrassing zatkoff and a 30 year old fluery. He isn't gonna be great forever. Keep the younger talent and be rid of the older.

I somewhat agree with you Npally. Yes it's important to have a heir apprentice to fleury, but in case you haven't noticed, the pens have a VERY thin prospect pool. By the time Murray is an NHL starter, Their core could very well be out of their prime and maybe been traded to other teams. Matt Murray will end up being an amazing goaltender on an otherwise brutal team. Murray could end up hurting Pittsburgh in the long run because he'll actually be winning games which will prevent Pittsburgh from winning another draft lottery. I think that pens have clearly stated that they have a "win now" mindset and it's too late to deviate from that plan seeing as they have barely any youth left. If they can acquire an impact player for Murray, I think GMJR should consider it. It's very clear that the time is now to win in Pittsburgh. GMJR should do whatever he possibly can to make that happen. With this core, it's embarrassing to have only one Stanley cup. I guess it all depends on how quickly scouts believe Murray will pass fleury. If it's within the next 2 seasons, I say keep him. If it's more long term then that, I think it would be best to net a solid return out of him

Ummmm what are you talking about? Goalies aren't wingers. The typical goalie doesn't normally hit their peek until about 32. 30 year old for a goalie is still young. All the greats played until their 40s and lead cup teams late in their careers. Brodeur and Osgood come directly to mind from this era of goalies. It's a positional and mental position, not physical. Flower, if stays healthy, will be solid until hit late 30s.

I'm not saying trade Murray, but a little more common knowledge please.

Good, fair comments by Matt, Hibbs and npalley. I do agree with Matt and I'll paraphrase that the Pens with at least three premier stars in the league have been a play off disappointment in recent years. Yes, the time to win is now. For Pens and Murray's sake, Murray should be Pens next year, play 25 games or so to see what he really is at the NHL level.

I actually think it wouldn't be terrible to see what the value of Murray is. Fleury is going to be the starter for at least the next 3 seasons after this unless his game falls off severely. The Pens also have Tristan Jarry who is a very good prospect. If Murray could help get the Pens a young player under contract it should definitely be considered. No rentals though

Yes I agree. Play him as fleurys backup next season and see how he does. If he performs very good in that role, the 17/18 season we could potentially see Murray taking more starts away from the flower
