Oshie, Burakasvky and a 1st are probably enough for Tarasenko. But I do not think these additions fill enough needs for STL making it worth giving up Vladi.

I could see the Blues taking the above Tarasenko trade, for sure. He's 26 and about to break 30 goals for the fourth straight year, so that's an interesting possibility for Washington. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/t/tarasvl01.html On the down side, he starts 68% of his shifts in the offensive zone--10% more than Ovechkin, who has 44 goals. But you're not looking at trading Ovechkin. Just Oshie, who got injured early in this season and is still getting his game back together, after his only thirty goal season, last year. He's a consistent threat for 20ish, and has great hand eye coordination for rebounds, deflections, and stickhandling through the net, though, so trading him plus a bunch of picks and prospects is hard. But Tarasenko might be worth it?

Svechnikov has 72 points in 44 games against children http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=196147

Svechnikov's WJC highlights show a variety of different offensive tools (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDk5gw5q9Vo): slap shot, snap shot, stickhandling through traffic, midair deflection, rebounds, wraparounds. He seems like a complete offensive player. That's still a huge overpayment, like, I think you could get him twice for that, but unlike other trade proposals for high picks in this year's draft, the player in question looks like he could play in the NHL, skillwise, and will just need to keep building speed and strength to really contribute. That's much more of what a prospect's highlight reel should look like than what I see on YouTube for Zadina or Hughes, whom Caps fans are trading for, today.

So, you're saying the value is there, but the interest isn't. What does St. Louis need?

Sorry to quote your whole post but it all makes sense. I do think it was an overpayment for 'senko, but...like you said it might be worth it for an established RW on that top line. Svechnikov looks like he is the real deal. Has done well at all levels, has size(6'3") and will fill out his frame. Some of those highlights are pretty sick. Imagine him being surrounded by veteran countrymen to help him mature. Sky is the limit.

Correct and I would think STL would want a Center with similar age and cost to Tarasenko like Kuznetsov but that would not make sense for Washingotn. Possibly Backstrom and Burakasvky for Tarasenko and a prospect.
Notion would be Tarasenko is worth more because of age and term than Backstrom so include Bura and blues include a higher end prospect.

Backstrom plays a 200 foot game. Tarasenko isn't there yet. I think trading Backstrom ends the Caps' streak of winning their division, and reduces Ovechkin's goal output to about 30. So unless the Caps are offered Dahlin or Svechnikov plus current stars for Ovechkin, this doesn't remotely cross their minds as possible.

Here's a look at where I think the Caps end up missing the playoffs if they trade away Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Holtby: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/639831

It's possible Grubauer or Samsonov steps up and plays like a starter, and that this team ends up better in five years, but I see growing pains.

Yeah I dont think this makes WASH better just saying thats the kind of trade it would take for the Blues to move Vladi.
