you're one of the few leafs fans who acknowledges that you need defense but I would not make that trade. I want habs to rebuild and that includes Weber but rebuilding means going after blue chip prospects and first round picks, not solid Centers

Actually, I'm not a Leafs fan at all. But your respect your opinion of the trade.

Exactly how this trade is bad for them? MTL needs a C and TOR needs a RHD, so what's the problem?

Yah, but the Leafs need Kadri, he is an important part of the team, he is a on the 1st power play unit and has good chemistry with his line mate, Mitch Marner. As well as that Kadri is younger and cheaper than Weber.

Yeah, Leafs need Kadri. They also need Matthews, Marner and Nylander to be offensively good. But keeping all those four is not enough since your defense is too mediocre. Every single Stanley Cup winner from the last 6 or 7 years has had one of the greatest d-men of the league in their roster. Toronto doesn't, and cannot afford to get one if they keep all of those four star forwards. Essentially, you'd have to give up one of those. It doesn't have to be Kadri, it can be Marner or Nylander as well. In my opinion, TOR must do a trade if they want to even dream about winning the cup.

Yes but why Weber. Weber is expensive, he old, (for a hockey player) he plays for the Leafs rivial, the Canadiens and look at the free agent market over the next 3 seasons, a handful of good defensemen are free agent not to mention the Leafs have a top prospect WHO IS A DEFENSMEN (Timothy Liljegren) so Weber is not needed especially when you are trading Kadri. Doughty wants to become a Maple Leaf, Karlsson is friends with Doughty and the Leafs have timothy liljegren, that is a bad trade for the Leafs.

You can't count on Liljegren being a star D-man in the future. Obviously, he is a potential prospect, but no one can predict the future.

And what comes to Shea Weber's age, he is 32 years old, which isn't even that old yet. When Boston won Stanley Cup in 2011, their star D-man was 34-35 years old. When Chicago Blackhawks won their last stanley cup, Keith was 32 years old. Weber has still time to be a producing asset that brings great leadership to the team, is a solid team player to the defensive end and brings a very big threat with his powerful shot in power play. I'd say the only problem with him is his contract, thus I'm retaining a part of his salary. And he would certainly be the star D-man that you're lacking. He has belonged to the TOP10 of d-men of this league for almost ten years now.

here we go again, the only team that weber ever gets traded is the leafs. his contract is not wanted by the leafs. the leafs only have two nhl centres signed next year, Matthews and kadri so they aren't trading kadri.
what is this notion that the leafs , and only the leafs are so desperate for defencemen,

I can think of many teams that are in a need of defensemen, like EDM or NYI. But Leafs seem to have the highest potential of these teams to be successful if/when they acquire a proper, high level d-man.
Only thing that I'm saying is that Weber is a fair option. At least he would upgrade your team quite a bit.

first it isn't my team. to take kadri and replace with weber may or might not be an improvement at all. it's no better than a lateral move by the leafs at best. at worse it's a contract that hurts them in the future. if weber is such a great investment for the habs, maybe they should keep him for the next eight years. they might be playoff contenders by then.

See, the difference between Leafs and Habs is that Leafs can actually be successful, since they have good forwards and a great coach. MTL is a train wreck without a single good C, their GM is more incompetent than a coconut with a superman cape and now they've lost a sh**load of money because of that Price's horrible contract. Sure, Weber is a great D, no question, but one player cannot hold up a whole team. Even McDavid is unable to do that.

Over the past two seasons Kadri has scored the same amount of goals as JT. (61) He’s also on a very yearn friendly contract so his value would be pretty high. Weber strikes me as a guy who’s going to be slowing down soon due to age and injuries he has gotten.

Look its just my opinion but Weber is still a top dman, his contract is actually really good (It's so annoying how people still don't get it) and i would not trade him for a #2 Center. I want a young prospect who has a chance at being elite, a 1st round pick AND a #2 center. Otherwise I'm just spinning my wheels.
Liljegren is FAR MORE valuable to the habs than Kadri. If we trade Weber its because we are doing a REAL rebuild (which i think we should unless we get really lucky and win the lottery and then sign Tavares).
Look closely at Weber's contract and how much he actually makes and you will see that Nashville is the team with the bad contract.... not the Canadiens (yes that actually makes sense)
