Trading with Buffalo...again. Yotes too.

Description
Again...a small step or two back to take major steps forward in the near future. Fischer and Wood would likely play next season in Iowa (AHL) next season for the baby Wild, but I kept them on this roster to help evaluate the trade.
Overall concept here is to get younger, bigger, faster, and have more piss and vinegar...all the while getting the team ready for Kaprizov, Greenway, Ek, Kunin, etc to hit their primes with a loaded team.

No from BUF. Spending picks to get older is not exactly what the team should do.

Don't think teams as long term bad as Buffalo and Arizona are inclined to give up their 1st rounders for what looks like a potentially high end draft. The players you are sending them are good, but giving up Ristolainen/Fischer and the 1st to make it happen is probably a non-starter.

Bad rebuilding teams such as Arizona and Buffalo ARE NOT going to trade their 1st round picks.

I was looking at this from a different perspective. When you have been as bad as these two teams for as long as they have been bad...you might want to change up your strategy. Plus, they are not 1st rounders in this summers draft, they are for 2019.

Buffalo already has enough 2nd/3rd pairing defensemen. Ristolainen isn't getting traded unless we get a boatload back.

I don't think two teams that have been drafting in the bottom 10 the past - forever years - will be trading those picks away man. The idea of the trades work but not those picks. especially with their track record of being a bad team. They're better off moving other pieces to improve if that's the case.

Buffalo IS getting a boatload back. Spurgeon is a bonafide top pairing, right-shot defensman and Brodin is a top 4 who has spent a lot of time on the top pairing with the Wild...so they are getting 2 top 3 d-men here.

The problem is you’re not just getting Ristolainen with this trade. If it was for Ristolainen straight up or him and a smaller piece I would agree, but we’re not giving up a shot at Jack Hughes too

The Buffalo trade is better now but Arizona one is still off IMO. That 1st even though we don't know the value of yet, has good odds of being another top 10 pick.

I wouldn't be inclined to pull that 1st out of the AZ deal. The Wild are giving up a 30 goal scorer (Zucker) and a big, versatile forward who averages about 40 points a season (Coyle) - both still not in their primes. Zucker is a top 6 forward on any team in the NHL and Coyle can play anywhere in a top 9 role. In this scenario, the Wild would be receiving a promising young forward in Fischer, a total project and educated guess in Wood...plus a 1st rounder. That's fair compensation in my opinion...even if that 1st ends up in the top 10.

I think Zucker for the 1st makes sense and Coyle for Fischer and Wood makes sense if they were made as separate deals.
