I think one thing that gets forgotten on these AGM teams is why would a GM trade for Petry when they can just as easily bid for Carlson. You can sign UFAs to plug holes in your existing team, but signing a bunch of UFAs in order to trade away a bunch of others who are similar won't work because the other teams will also be in the hunt for those same UFAs. So go ahead and restock the cupboard with free agents, but with rare exception, you should plan to hold a fire sale for the players you're not going to be keeping.

Sure John Tavares is going to sign with Montreal, When you just traded away your best assets, Price is probably gone as well if you're dealing Drouin, Weber and Pacioretty and no way is Rick Nash signing with Montreal when he made it known he doesn't want to play in Canada he'd only waive for Toronto for the playoffs. I don't see either Tavares or Carlson signing with Montreal and just because it's the Habs Tavares will want either $14 million or $15 million per to sign there.
