I think I have seen either yourself or someone else post this exact trade in the past. At the time, I did not really look into it, but I did my research now and realized that Andersson is actually a defenseman so this can make sense. I also get why you are trading him for Sprong as both have yet to really play in the lineup for a long period of time and both were drafted in the same year (only 7 picks apart). I would like to see him on the Pens, but at the same time, I feel like Sprong should crack the lineup by next season and he will want to prove his worth. I wonder if Calgary would trade him for other assets/picks, as they already have a strong defensive core and have other young defensemen in the system like Valimaki and Kylington. Any other way you see the Pens being able to acquire him?

I'm a Pens fan who lives in Calgary. The two organizations view both guys quite similarly in terms of value. I think the straight 1 for 1 swap is reasonable, as the Flames need a scoring winger, and the Pens could use a solid, young D-man. I don't think the Pens have much else that would interest the Flames enough to give up Andersson, unless the Pens were willing to move Guentzel or maybe Rust instead.

Yeah I posted this trade idea a while back and some other people thought it was a good idea too so I've seen it around on other posts. The question is where does Sprong crack the lineup in a meaningful (top 6/9) position? The RW depth is solid with Kessel, Horn, and Rust and then there is even more depth with guys like Sheary, Aston-Reese and Simon who have played both sides. Basically Sprong would have to carve himself a role by playing really well and pushing other people out of the lineup. That could happen. I just think the trade is so perfectly balanced and makes so much sense for both teams. I'm not sure what Andersson would be worth in other assets. Maybe something like Sheary/Rust + a pick could get it done but that is more difficult to figure out. CGY likes Sprong because of his potential: top 6 RW.

Flames fan here, posted this exact trade last week. I really like Sprong and think that a 1-for-1 makes sense for both teams. Andersson should've been in the NHL this season but Treliving signed Stone for three years for some reason. CGY desperately needs a top RW and I don't see them acquiring or signing a big name, so bringing in Sprong and putting him right up with Gaudreau and Monahan could be a great fit. CGY's d prospect pool is also really strong so it makes sense there too. Interesting that both guys were picked only 7 picks apart in 2015.

I saw this trade earlier and I was a big fan. I usually don’t like prospect for prospect trades, but this one actually makes sense.
