I would rather keep Nylander tbh. Because he can play both C/RW and if one of your centers gets injured he can fit in. Idk if Tavares will go to Toronto because the team is young and they could be tight in cap for years by signing him. But hey, it still fits under the cap if it rises next season so I guess it would work.

Ya you could bridge him until marleaus contract is up but then ur looking at a pretty weak d corps. I can totally see Lou somehow getting rid off of marleau in his third year via ‘injury’ or something. Tight salary cap is okay if you got stars lined up long term in every position like Toronto would if they did this. Matthews Tavares Kadri Reilly Hanifin and Marner guaranteed for the next 4-7 years is essentially guaranteeing a Stanley cup IMO.

True true. I just thought Nylander might be good to have so he can play both positions if needed.

Certainly the Leafs aren't trading arguably there second best forward forward for Hanifan. Hanifan isn't that special. Leafs are OK long term at LHD Reilly, Dermot, Borgman. It's RHD might an issue. Holl a regular in 2019? At age 26 he's played two NHL games.

Hanifin projects to be a something really special, he’s just taking longer to get there which is typical for a defenseman. I agree that a RHD would be much better tho.. The point is that a Drouin for Sergachev type deal would be ideal for the leafs if they signed Tavares. Marner/Nylander for a young good RHD preferably

Marner and Nylander are way more valuable than Drouin was when he was traded.

What I’m saying is that this is the type of deal we would want.. sign and trade for a top pair D prospect maybe in a package

Yeah cause that's worked extremely well for the team trading the forward.

    Drouin for Serge

    Hall for Larsson

    Sure let's make it 3 for 3!!!

Just because certain stupid GMs made those moves doesn't mean it was a good move!

If it's Nylander Carrick and a 2nd or 3rd for Hanifin and Pesche then sure I guess.

Tampa won the Serg trade hands down and that’s only going to get more and more obvious. If we can do something like that that would be good. With mark hunter and Lou running things I wouldn’t be worried about getting screwed in a deal like Edmonton did

I don't know if Connor mcschulenberg is a leaf hater or what, but most of his trades absolute screws the leafs. you're right about Drouin. his potential seemed to have peaked at second year in Tampa. if he was a Quebecer, a doubt if the habs would have even been interested in acquiring him.
