Philadelphia Trade: This is the big one. The Flyers greatly improve their defense core and add a RH shot (they only have 1 right now). Tanev can stabilize either Provorov or Ghostisbehere and let them do their thing. They have a good chance at being dangerous next year if Patrick, Lindblom, Sanheim, etc. can step up and improve their already really good team. The Canucks get a sizable injection of picks in 2 strong drafts.
Minnesota Trade: The Wild get cap relief to re-sign Dumba by dumping Ennis. They also get a cheap, cost-controlled replacement who happens to be Michael's brother.
Washington Deal: The Capitals dump Orpik's salary, which allows them to take a shot at re-signing Carlson as well as keeping their depth pieces in place. Orpik is washed up and doesn't provide much. They get a much younger, cost-controlled replacement in the defense core though. The Canucks stock up on more picks.
Florida Trade: Florida fills out their roster with a decent middle-6 forward who can play multiple positions. Vancouver get's a mid round pick. This trade isn't a big deal so you can remove it if you don't think it's fair or don't like it.
Carolina Trade: Dump Lehtera to open a roster spot. Carolina will probably need help to get to the cap floor. Again, this trade isn't a big deal and you can remove it if you want to.
Free Agency: Green provides a roster replacement for Tanev. He also might be of interest at the deadline where we can trade him for more picks. Filppula is someone that I think would be a great center for Pettersson. He's responsible defensively but can also make plays offensively. Hansen signs a cheap deal to come back to the place he loves. He also might garner interest at the deadline. I don't expect any of these signings to put us back in the Playoffs, but that's kind of the point. They're just stop gaps for the next couple years and can be used to acquire more picks in that time.
Overall, the Canucks acquire a whole bunch of picks mainly by taking back bad contracts, sign some stop gaps who can be traded for picks and provide space for rookies like Pettersson, Gaudette and Juolevi to step in next year.
