Description
So im thinking that after going and getting a huge upgrade to our centre depth we shouldn't go half way with this. Hjalmarsson is exactly the type of player we need to complement our existing dman and Collins gives is a more cap friendly Martin type player. We give ARI 3 solid NHL players and 2 picks. I feel this is another good trade for both teams. I know some people think we need a RHD and ideally that would be great but honestly that is more for your offensive and 2 way dman. When it comes to shutdown dman like Hjalmarsson and Hainsey as long as they are comfortable playing both sides and can move the puck well you really don't need to worry bout his hand. So for the price to get him and he actually is still young enough to be around for 4-6 more years with the leafs.

Reverse the trade, would you send Hjalmarsson to ARI for that package? Whole lot of spare parts for a player in Hjalmarsson that would be highly coveted if available

Actually i would you got to remember with the leafs forward depth most people feel leivo is a solid 3rd/2nd line winger that just can't find a home cause the spots are filled and carrick is a solid 3rd pair dman and Martin is a solid defensive forward and ARI are getting a 3rd and 4th. Hjalmarsson is a solid defensive player that complements offensive players well but has proven this year without a Duncan Keith type player next to him he will put up 2nd pair defensive skills but 3rd pair offensive skills. I would consider adding Andrew Neilson and upgrade the 4th to a 3rd but the package is solid it may not blow anyone away but if in rebuild like ARI is in the young players and picks you crave and this trade has that.

We should also remember they traded Hjalmarsson for and 3rd pair dman and a depth forward so honestly they are getting more promising players than they gave up to get him and acquiring 2 picks so they are getting more than they gave up to get him.

The only way I'd add a 1st is if we got their 2nd round pick as well. Hjalmarsson a solid 2nd pair shutdown dman but isn't Tanev, McDonaugh calibre.

Listen to Itwasin....also why does everyone think that rebuilding teams covet potential 2nd liners and 3rd pairing dmen...they're rebuilding and you're gonna have to pay their price for their high end assests, weather you want to or not...this isn't the 70s anymore whete you can dangle a Jerry Korab and get a 1st rounder + a couple throwins....those days are long gone

Well they traded a 3rd pair dman and depth forward to get him so flipping him for a better talant and some picks is a good trade for ARI. Also, not every player is worth a 1st round pick you do realize that this trade for a 2nd pair dman is value and if ARI expect every player they have to garner a 1st round pick when they don't have enough talant to even compete for playoff spots. Younger players of similar skill have gone for 2nd round pick and a few b prospects that probably will never play in the NHL but a 31 year old 2nd pair defensive dnan who can only get 10 points a season is worth 1st round picks. You must be a coyote fan cause your desprate uf you think Hjalmarsson is worth a 1st and the leafs don't get there 2nd back. We are not the deprate for him and i hope for ARI sake the GM doesn't think that also cause they will never get a 1st round pick for Hjalmarsson.

I didn't say a first round pick...but please stop thinking quantity is always better to a rebuilbing team than quality...told you idiot GM days of the 70s and 80s are over

Actually you did you might want to read what you posted you stated Hjalmarsson is a high end asset??? He's a top dman in this league is he. Rick Nash only got a 1st cause boston is deprate and stupid. I doubt anyother team valued him that much and every other team offered 2 2nd rather than the 1st. But Hjalmarsson is a high end asset than why did chicago trade him for a 3rd pair dman and a depth forward why didn't a team offer what you think hes wortb a 1st round pick? Again read what you wrote you may realize why i stated what i did. Also, if we end up giving a team a 1st for a dman it will be for an elite talant not a 2nd pair dman even on one of the worst teams in the NHL

The only reason im interested in Hjalmarsson is he's better than Polak and if the price for 2nd pair dman are at 1st round picks or marner type prospects than im happy with our d and good luck to ARI getting Marner type prospects gor practically nothing.

You asked me to "listen to itwasin" also you kerp bringing up 1st round picks.the Wild openly regret doing that trade and thought they were getting a 1st line centre not a 4th line realized there mistake the early on. Yandle was a Star dman who not only played 20+ min but generated top pair points are you now trying to tell me 10 points this season is elite top line production???
