Maybe. But Desharnais could be tradeable this summer because he will have 1 year remaining on his contract. If Staal goes to Toronto (after losing out on Stamkos), Carolina will need some centers for next year.

Emelin is attractive and not that much overpaid.

To be able to get in the Stamkos derby, Desharnais and Emelin must go if the cap doesn't move up. If the cap is higher, we can maybe keep one of them. Next year, we can promote a lot of rookies (Hudon, McCarron, Carr, Andrighetto...). So we do have cap space if necessary.

I really like this lineup. I agree with the poster that it would be tough to move DD and Emelin but if Toronto can trade Phaneuf and Clarkson it can be done. This turns us into a cup contender.

I'm amazed Phanuef got traded. The Leafs did take back an additional 2.7m in salary next year & pro rated this year. I think Montreal would have to take salary back if traded Emily & Daisy. Not sure at all if Leafs are really interested in Stamkos (makes media talking points) and really can't see the interest in Stall. Leafs have Bozak, Nylander, probably Kadri and Holland next year. If the ride continues this year, maybe Matthews.
