Not from the Leafs perspective I wouldn't say. At present they have this big, long window in which to contend. Maybe 8-12 years after this one. But McDonagh is signed for one more year (as is Gardiner).
After that next year, you are out Bracco and Borgman and your late 1st from the year before.
Also, now McDonagh makes just a bit more than Jake, but if you want to re-sign him will cost much more.
Also, McDonagh shoots Left and plays LD, and you have traded away two very capable LD to get him, but done nothing about the ugly situation at RD.
