Description
Most of these trades are pretty straightforward: trading pending UFA's for assets in a losing season. Because this team is closer to contending than most last-place teams, the emphasis was put on bringing back players and prospects rather than picks.

Maroon seems like a good fit in Boston, he plays their style and plays well with talent. Plus he has a career playoff points-per-game of 0.62, which compares well with Bergeron (0.69), Marchand (0.60) and Backes (0.56).

The Davidson trade isn't neccessary at the deadline exactly, but I thought I'd throw it in here. Buffalo badly needs NHL defense and Davidson has been putting up good numbers in Edmonton. Some people think that Zemgus needs a fresh start and the Oilers could provide just that. This also likely cuts down Buffalo's salary, as Davidson won't command more than $1M on his next contract.

Strome for Sprong is interesting, Pittsburgh trading a prospect for a legit 3C who could help with another Cup run and into the future as he's an RFA at the season's end. If he re-signs in Pittsburgh the Oilers get a 3rd round pick in 2019, if not, the Oilers get nothing more and Strome becomes a UFA.

Letestu is a great FO guy and New Jersey is the worst at the dot of all the playoff teams, so even if they just used him as FOGO he would be very valuable to them. He also can play PP and PK and is a veteran presence for this young team. He's not worth McLeod himself, so I added Lagesson (a Swedish D prospect with good arrows) who should play in the AHL next year and NHL the year after, and Gryba who is a decent stay-at-home defender who was a pretty key player in Edmonton's run last year. He's also signed through next year and could be buried in the AHL if need be.

Cammalleri today isn't what he used to be, but could be a useful addition for a playoff run. He hasn't played in the playoffs for ages so his 1.0 ppg career doesn't mean much, but the last two year his team made the postseason he certainly cranked up his output in a big way. Still, he's on pace for over 30 points this year and is a useful player. Auvitu is a very offensive defenseman who I really enjoy watching, but for some reason McLellan doesn't trust. He doesn't defend well, but creates far more chances for than against: CF% is 54.55, FF% is 54.65 and his GF% is an astounding 67.74 - tops on the team by far. Both are UFA's, but both could be re-signed at very reasonable rates on short-term contracts if the auditions work out well. The ask is 24-year-old AHL defenceman Jordan Schmaltz, who could potentially be a 3RD for the Oilers next year.

The roster is set up to give the kids and newcomers a push through the end of the season to see what we've got. McLeod of course stays in junior for the remainder of the season.

I think you would lose that pens trade. Sprong is underwhelming.

1st Trade: I think the Oilers could get 1 fair pick more added on to JFK, Bruins may not trade him, but with so much Center depth it’s possible, we need RHC.

2nd Trade: I like Davidson too much so no if it’s not necessary

3rd Trade: I would probably do this trade, don’t really like Strome, but as a shooting right handed winger with some speed, I think Sprong can work well with Draisaitl, PPG in the AHL, and a 3rd to boot, I think I’d accept

4th Trade: Idk if New Jersey is scoping the market for A bottom 6 F, but I think McLeod’s speed and grit could be great for the bottom 9, I probably would accept, but McLeod is their best prospect since Hischier graduated.

5th trade: Is accept, players I want to trade for picks, instead traded for a young RHD, is fine. St.Louis maybe has limited interest in both players.

Same but for girgensons. Also don't need anymore depth defensemen.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not stuck on the Davidson trade either, I'm sure an equivalent LW can be signed in FA if necessary. One thing I don't like about Davidson is the QO, although I think he would take a 2 year x $750K offer to stay in Edmonton as a 7th D-man. He certainly isn't going to get any more than that as a UFA.
