Definite yes, no questions asked. Rangers/Tampa would be very happy with this IMO. Only thing I might ask, just to see the response, is that you make the 2nd round pick a 3rd/4th and retain some of Callahan's contract, maybe 1-1.8 mill, but that really is not a big factor. I'd take this deal regardless.

Makes the Lightning better for two years. Considerably hurts them for the future.

TB would not be able to make the salary cap work if they retained some salary!

TB window is now before Kucherov contract is over and will require a huge raise so they dont really have the choice but to go all in now!

Don't think Callahan would accept a trade to Rangers given the fact they are going to go through a rebuild and the Lightning are contending.

They have a lot of choice. Kucherov has already said through his agent that he will not break the bank on his next contract. Early speculation is his contract will be between 8.5 and 9 million. That's manageable. Bolts window is not closing.

Foote is more valuable than the Lightning's 1st and 2nd.

I agree about the foot value, but for kucherov contract, dont forget they will need to resign point, Gourde and Mcdonagh also so that makes it a lot harder to make it all work out.

That's why I don't see a McDonagh trade as any more than a 2 year rental. There will be cap room for Kucherov and Point. Gourde will probably have to be replaced with one of the many forward prospects the Bolts have (Howden, Cirelli, Joseph, Volkov, Raddysh, Stephens, Yan, Peca , etc).

So there you go, they have plenty of prospects already so they can afford to do this trade and will help out the short terme with out risking the futur to much!

Key word was "Forward" prospects. Your proposed trade has Sergachev being traded which is a huge part of the Lightning defense future. Yzerman's plan of sustained success requires the Defense to be run by Hedman and Serg for the next 7 years.

Well you are right that the futur would better with sergachev but at some point you need to stop thinking about the futur and think more about now. I believe this year's tb team is the best they will have for a while plus almost everyone is healthy.

As a Bolts fan I would drop Sergachev and find another way to try. Also not too hot on giving up Raddysh. Is it really worth it to sacrifice our future? Convince me.

McDonagh's contract runs out at the same time Kucherov, Stralman, Point, and Gourde will need extensions, and Namestnikov will need a contract extending into UFA years this summer. Whether or not they acquire McDonagh, Tampa will need to make sacrifices of core players in order to stay under the cap, especially with Sergachev and Vasilevskiy needing extensions in 2020. This year and next will be Tampa's best opportunities to win the cup with their current roster, and McDonagh on his sweetheart deal could very well be the piece to push them over the top, allowing them to run two elite defensemen on the left side for almost the entirety of each game. There's no guarantee that any prospect, highly regarded or not, will become impact players in the NHL, and with somewhere around $15 million (generous on my part) available without somehow shipping off Callahan to fill at least nine roster spots in 2019, Tampa needs to take advantage of their golden opportunity to shoot for the cup.

It's not a matter of "sacrificing the future", Tampa will have cap trouble no matter what. It's a matter of taking advantage of a prime two-year window.

In all honesty. Bolts should do nothing. Keep doing what they have been doing already. They already have a team capable of winning the cup and plenty of picks and prospects to replace any potential players they lose going forward for years to come. If they stick to this plan they'll be a perennial contenders for god knows how long.......

Sergachev is as good as he is in year 1, how good will he be in 2-3 years? Potential Norris calibre dman for essentially 2 years of McD because we know he not resigning there. Forget sweetheart deals, he will get paid. He hasn't gotten that big contract yet and he ill want it. TB simply has too many good young players to resign in coming years to sign McD.

Sure McD and Nash might push them over the top, then again they may already be on top and win regardless. Whats another million dollars to a multi-Billionaire? Chump change.
