I would. Montreal would have to take back serious Cap though, not sure how that could be worked into it.

Blues fans will say their prospect pool will be gutted, and its true. But if they win 1 or 2 Cups, who cares? 50+ years of nothing, eventually you have to "go for it".

Blues fans-No. That's mortgaging the future for maybe two years of cup runs. No thanks.

The impacts of this trade would be very interesting to see on either side in real life

Blues still wouldn't win the cup. We know how this goes.

Maybe if you had decent goaltending in the post season for once...

If you aren't in it to win the Cup, then why bother? So a Billionaire can collect his money?

We had good goaltending last year and didn't win. The team wasn't deep enough up front. If you could stop Schwartz and Tarasenko, you could stop the whole team. Blues finally have some young impact guys coming up through the ranks to help with that. I don't mind trading for Price, but it has to be a good deal for now and the future. Plus, Blues have a promising young goalie in Ville Husso in the pipeline. But since Armstrong has a love affair for Allen, he signed him to a 4 year contract for greater than an average starter's price.

Thank you for a good break down.

I think it's bad form to blame the current owners/mgmt/coaches/players/prospects for the last 50 years of failure.

The best team in the league will have like a 12% chance of winning the cup. I like to think that adding Price and Patches would make the Blues the favorite.. but those are still long odds. Then, if we screw up (like we always do), we're left in a worse situation that the Habs are in right now. I doubt the Blues GM would be ready to make a move like this.

Also, people close to the team are saying that the Blues have never had so much outside interest in their prospects. I think of when Berglund/Perron/Oshie were coming up... these four (Kyrou, Thomas, Kostin, Thompson) probably have a better chance of finding success in the NHL than those guys, all of whom have had pretty good careers? Also worth noting that the one who probably gets the least respect, Thompson, is already looking really good in the NHL this year.

I am not blaming them for not winning. I am simply saying that the current team should go for it. They have a strong team with a ton of assets. The time is now. Reward the loyal fanbase that has been around for those 50years (and since).

I guess that's where we disagree. The Blues got off to a surprisingly good start, but they have come back down to earth and are right in the middle of a very tough playoff race in the central. No one was calling them contenders before the season started; honestly this year is supposed to be part of the transition to the younger core, there were growing pains expected, just like last year. If we keep all of our assets, I see the window just opening and our best shot being 2-3 years from now...

Here is the core:

Schwartz (age 25) - Schenn (26) - Tarasenko (26) - Fabbri (22) - Pietrangelo (28) - Parayko (24) - Edmundson (24) - Allen (27) / Husso (23)

So if some of the prospects and young players pan out and can play better than guys like Jaskin/Gunnarsson/Sobotka, I don't see how the team will be any worse in a couple years. The window isn't closing by any means.

Good God no. For that package you'll have to retain at least $4.5 million from Price.

I love Price, no doubt he's one of the best. But at 10.5 million his value is about equal to Allen.

That's very fair. The issue would become the cap hit of those players. Most of these players are still on RFA contracts. Most of these players will be signing contracts at that time to eat UFA years. I am not saying you are wrong. Interesting team right now and going forward.

Yep I hear ya. Avoiding bad contracts and getting production from guys on ELC's is huge in today's NHL. If we come up short on money, it would likely be in 2020 - that's when those Steen/Berglund/possibly Stastny extensions could bite us, depending on whether any of the current prospects will earn a big payday. Also the year to extend Petro again, this time all UFA years, and maybe Schenn too if no one has replaced him by then...
