This trade is one sided

It makes sense if the Oilers want some long term cap flexibility. But if they think Draisaitl is long term value.....then why would the Oilers do it?

Yeah but it's not until 2019 on July 1st when he can become a UFA so that's still over 17 months away.

Karlsson will be seeking close to $13 million so $4.5 million more then Draisaitl doubt they can afford it.

dont see edmonton trading for him before july 1st when they can sign him to an extension, so its literally just a year away from when that trade would go down

No. One year of Karlsson is not worth more than 7 years of Draisaitl and a second round pick, it just isn't.

Exactly that would make the most sense there.

Possibly depends on the outcome and what Karlsson wants to do, Don't know if he's right but from what Doug MacClean had said on TSN he pretty much showed a 7 team list that Karlsson was willing to waive to and none were Canadian teams all American teams heard that Karlsson wants to play in the States.

Interesting comments, I will add this. I agree, I don't think they can build a competitive team while paying Karlsson and Mcdavid 25+ million. And if they decide to go for Karlsson in free agency (and get him), they would be looking at paying 3 players 33 million-ish. So doubt that ever happens.
