That's probably an overpay for Brodin value-wise. I don't know if the Wild would say yes, but they would have to think on it pretty hard.

Cap's fans will say no.

I really like this. I don't think all the trades are totally bang on value-wise. But they all seem to take team needs into account. Plus the Caps should absolutely go for it.

Sent that trade to a Wild fan buddy of mine and he said (short form) stick it!! Lol

Brodie is VERY underrated, and they also have cap issues. If you're sending that then you'd have to take a Big contract back.

I don't think the Caps have a problem with Orpik's cap hit. Brooks Orpik is the toughest player in the National Hockey League. He has dished out more hits and won more fights as a Capital than Brodin has in his career.

However, Brodin is good with a puck, fifteen years younger, and plays two more minutes a night. How big of a contract are we talking about? Parise? Suter?

also, hard pass on Sharp. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/s/sharppa01.html
He's playing more, with more offensive zone starts, and scoring less than Brett Connolly
https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/c/connobr01.html Washington isn't running a charity, here.

Grubauer is a starting goalie for the next decade.

Maybe for De Brincat? Not for Sharp.

Washington's window is closing sooner than Chicago's, so the second round pick is immaterial.

How about for Conor Murphy and Ryan Hartman? Maybe Washington throws in a third?

TBH I'm not sure, just saying with the the situation the Wild are in they can't afford both Orpik and Burakovsky. Wild aren't shopping Brodin anyway, he's their future.

The Wild would have to make the cap to work. Dump Ennis for nothing and it works. Trade Stewart and send JEE back to the AHL, and the Wild would be right at the TDL cap space.

I was only looking more at the value aspect of it. It's a big haul in a winger that could end up being another Nino, a more physical d-man (I'd run Suter/Dumba and Orpik/Spurgeon top-4), a late 1st, and likely the first pick of the 2nd round. It's close to what the Wild got for Burns a few years ago.

The Wild have no need to make the trade. Cap and contract limits are an issue for the current season. I'd rather see Spurgeon or Dumba traded before Brodin, but if the right offer came along I'd trade Brodin.
