in my opinion, those prospects especially schmaltz at 24 already is a dud. he is getting to that age to start worrying about that. Blues would probably have to give edmundson as well.

I agree that isn't enough - but we wouldn't give up Edmondson. I could see us doing something like Barbashev/Thompson/Gunnarsson/2nd rounder for Hoffman + another NHLer

At the age of 24, you do. A that age you should be playing in the NHL if you are as good as you people think you are. Scoring in the AHL is easy. Look at Matt Taormina. Translating that to the NHL is a whole different beast.

To all the naysayers on Schmaltz, here's one thing to keep in mind. The last 3 seasons Blues had Pietrangelo, Parayko, and Shattenkirk to contend with. Good luck trying to fit another right handed d-man on that blue line.
Another thing to look at is the fact it takes longer for defenseman to mature than forwards because it requires a lot more thought and positioning. Most defenseman don't even get a full time role until they're between 22 and 24. Colin Miller is thriving in a full time with Vegas. He never got an opportunity with Boston or LA.
