Description
My personal opinion on the value of our players.

Backes: 4M because when he signed in Boston he already had a good career and just can't deliver anymore. Definitely right now he's worth less but to be fair, he was captain in St. Louis and played decent. I made his contract 1 year shorter, too.

Krejci: I like him, still a decent 2nd line center. I would take him at 5M all day... Just not worth 7.25M.

Rask and Krug: Just some adjustments...

Nash: We gave up a lot to get him last season... I really expected him to come back. A healthy Nash with a 2 year 4.5M contract would be great.

Bergeron/Marchand/Pastrnak: To be fair... These contracts are awesome, if I adjust the others I really should consider adjusting them as well... (Bergy 7.5, Marchy 7, Pasta 7)

Overall: With 6M cap space, we could make good moves at the deadline and resign our rookier easily.

Hindsight is fun but you can't really play that game. Because what you didn't do was pay Bergeron, Marchand and Pastrnak the money they "should" be getting.

Krejci - The deal is fine. MAYBE a little too much, but you are way underpaying him at 6m. Statsny is the easiest comparison and Krejci has been better throughout his career. Statsny was making 7m on the equivalent contract and just resigned for 2x6.5m. Spezza is another, as well as Ryan Johansen.

It was the market value. Although I agree the term was too long for that deal, the money was right on. Krejci is currently making about 380K per point. Other guys in that range: McDavid, Johansen, Little, Neilsen, Craig smith.

You want to pay him like Turris or Brassard, but he is better. Especially when you take into account the deal was signed after he had led the playoffs in scoring twice. None of the guys mentioned have done it once.

KRUG: bad news for you. He is getting a substantial raise. 6.5+ per season. I am not a huge fan of his, but he is better than he gets credit for defensively. He is also top 10 offensively in the league. He is an elite passer and by all accounts a leader in the locker room.

RASK: Again revisionist history. He was coming of a vezina and that was the market value. Look at Rinne, Lunkqvist, fluery, Varlamov, Miller and Bobrovsky's Contracts at the time. Price as well. Everyone wants to compare him to Vasielvsky or Murray or Holtby on their 1st or bridge deals. I will grant you the cost has come seemingly down on goalies, because of Contracts like Jones and Holtby's new deal. I expect those to go back up again though. Look at the deal Helleybuck just signed after one year in the NHL. The gave him the Rinne deal, which he deserved at the time. Also for the all criticism he gets. He is the NHL leader in save %. Everyone knows his flaws, but that being said, the Bruins D has been a bit of a mess until McAvoy and Carlo showed up. Trotman, Warsofky, Morrow, Bartkowski, Mezarjos, JML to name a few. Chara has also been better the last two seasons, than he was in the previous two before that (?).

I guess with all the above nonsense - I am trying to say the $ is close. They may have overpaid by 500K on the guys you mentioned (Backes deal is bad. Would have been fine with 6m for 2-3 years, but 5 is too many).
but the reason they were able to do it was because Bergeron should be making 10M like, Kopitar and Toews. Or at the very minimum 8+ like Getzlaf.

It's also easy to forget the deals they didn't make - Boychuk - Everyone was up in arms about moving him, but can you imagine paying him 6m for three more years after this? UG. Lucic and Soderberg are two more that come to mind.

Thank you for your comment. You really put effort in this. I guess you are right, I get your arguments. I just played around how we could look like...
I totally agree on Krejci, he resigned after a very good playoff year, but to me it's just ridiculous how he gets more than Bergeron.... The Backes contract is what it is, but without this awful deal we would have less problems resigning McAvoy, Carlo, Heinen and DeBrusk... I think at 4M at least you could try to trade him, but 6M for a 4th liner....?!

Our most important player is 33 now... We need to win at some point in the near future... Krejci is 32.... Our rivals key players are Eichel/Mittelstadt, Matthews/Marner/JT, Kuch/Stamkos/Point... Florida has a "new Bergeron" with Barkov. We probably can't compete long term, but with team friendly contracts we can build a deep team. Pasta and Marchy are good examples, but without Backes and a lower Krejci deal we could try to build a decent 3rd and 4th line as well. (Nashville for example)

I agree with you and I think two of the following will need to be moved/bought out before next season (Backes, Krejci, Rask, Krug, Miller) - I think ultimately it will be Krug and Krejci (because they have value) - although I could see Rask and Hope it's Backes. I think they will have to give up something fairly substantial to get out from under Backes. He becomes a lot easier to deal after next year, with one year left. Possibly Seattle or a team needing to get to the floor. which they will need for Debrusk and Bjork.

I think they have a decent 3rd and 4th line. I am fine with the 4th especially. They need more from the kids. Problem is they need more from Heinen, Donato & Bjork in particular. That fourth line is being forced to play up in the lineip.

JFK looks like he could be a pretty decent 3rd center (with a possibility of #2 in a couple years). Goods news is; I think (hope) Studnicka and Frederic will be ready to play major roles next year. That being said, they haven't got that this year from the forwards they expected it from. Hopefully one of them can turn into Bergeron's replacement in few years.

I appreciate you adjusting the top lines contracts. Maybe try adjusting them to what they should be because 7 million is a freaking joke

What the hell? Only because some teams overpaid their top players?
Bergeron is a 7.5M to 8.5M player... a reason is because he is injured a lot and by the end of his contract 37 years old. Don't get me wrong, he is my favourite player, but only because LA is giving Kopitar 10M and Toews gets 10.5M we should not overpay him.
Pastrnak is phenomenal, but without Bergy he isn't that great. 7M-8M for him.
Marchand will be 36 by the end of his contract. 6M is awesome for the team, he loves Boston and just wants to retire as a Bruin. 7M-7.5M is his true value in my opinion.
