Canes all in on Nylander

Two things, I don't think any team is going to overpay for getting 20 goal scorer Nylander. And that trade seems really slanted towards the Leafs. And while Friedman might say that, and he could be correct, there is just a good possibility that the Leafs start these rumours. Maybe they are telling Nylander....ask for too much money, you're being traded. Maybe Nylander doesn't care, but IMO he ups his value in future years playing with Matthews and some of the other high scoring Leafs.

Agreed, the longer the Nylander situation is going on, the more his value declines. Toronto's hand is quickly being forced. He can sign a one year deal the rest of the season in the KHL if he needs the money that bad. Carolina doesn't have to give up that much for a guy who has been holding out forever.

I rarely trust Sportsnet when it comes to the Leafs, if its injury updates or something about inside the locker room I'll trust it, but when it comes to trade rumors and the evaluation of players in that market you have to remember who owns Sportsnet and Toronto Sports Entertainment, answer: Rogers. They own the media covering the team and the team its self, hence why everytime a trade rumor pops up in Toronto its favorably on Toronto's side. Not saying that they use the media directly but every broadcaster knows who thier bosses are, what thier bosses interests are and although probably not directly told probably get hints about what the people up top would like to hear.

You're not trading for what he is now but what he is in the future. By that logic would you trade Dylan Strome for Ryan Strome?

I'm guessing it's a negotiation technique too.
