This is not a good team or good fix.

Grabner way overpaid get Neal for that kinda money.

Strome at 2C? Draisaitl.. Nuge..?

Dcore looks terrible much worse, Franson and Gryba are too slow

Double buyout can't happen 7.5M in buyouts in 2 seasons will kill any progression made

Gryba isn't playing
Franson was CHI's 3rd best dman by xGA when they sent him down, and the Hawks AHL affiliate predictably went from mediocre to unstoppable. He's still a solid 2nd pair guy.
Draisaitl's doing the majority of he work on the second line, but historically he's done better as a winger, so Strome was put in at 2C. With what he provides, he's not exactly a great 2C, but he's not horrific either, as long as he's got someone to carry the load offensively.
The worst season for the double buyouts still sees approx. 3 million savings on Sekera and 2 million on Russell. It's still painful, but Sekera and Russell arguably aren't worth that now and certainly won't be by then. Given that they both have NTCs (which preclude dumping), the buyouts are still worse.
Grabner's got the ability to kill penalties and is a virtual lock to score 30 alongside McDavid, which should help his assist numbers too. That's more than you'd get from Neal. Grabner's salary is set slightly higher than the prediction from Matt Cane's model, which I did purposefully to ensure the team was 100% feasible.
Only real hole's 2LW (ends up probably being Yamaoto/Aberg, maybe Lucic) which is a product of the 6 million NMC I can't do anything about.

If Franson was 3rd best on NHL team why was he sent down.. and why wasn't he claimed on waivers?

Draisaitl doesn't play better on the wing, he flies the zone too early when there. Plus all his RW time was paired with McDavid which boosts any of his numbers in that role.

Worst buyout season is actually only 400k savings on Russell and 2.9M on Sekera.

I know somebody that can score 30 and kill penalties and is on the Oilers roster already.

Yamamoto is also a RW, not LW

1. NHL GMs are stupid. You're an Oilers fan, I thought you all knew that.
2. My mistake. Still only one year, luckily. the rest is approx. 3 mil on Russel and 3-4 mill on Sekera. Still worth, given that they're third pairing guys.
3. Then toss him at centre with Strome on his wing. Doesn't really change much.
4. I assume you mean RNH/Draisaitl, but if there's any lesson from PIT going back-to-back it's that you get more out of those guys by having them drive their own lines.
5. Capfriendly has him listed as C/LW. At any rate, a winger's a winger: generally speaking it doesn't really matter which side they play, in my experience.
