Habs have four 2nd rounders. I'm pretty sure they'll gladly pay for Bjugstad and Mascherin.

I think that you wanted to do 18/19, not 17/18. (Vrbata would not need to be buried, etc)

But... Kovalchuk isn't going to sign with Florida if they don't improve elsewhere. He is not going to want the joy of working through a youth movement.

Why would the Leafs offer up such a high pick from such a deep draft for Adam Marashin when he will re-enter the draft? Even with his impressive OHL resume, It's no sure thing that he will be an NHL'er and I predict that he will not be drafted until the 3rd round anyway. The safe bet is that a team will offer a prospect for prospect, but I am unsure what prospect the Leafs would be willing to deal considering how deep they are on the wings. Perhaps the Leafs deal one of their unsigned draft picks like Fedor Gordeev, Nicolas Mattinen or Keaton Middleton?

I agree. Seems like the Habs would take the risk on Mascherin forsure, since he would be closer to the NHL then any pick they'd make this draft outside the first round. Plus, based on their needs and overhaul plans, I imagine they would give Masherin every opportunity to succeed in the NHL where he might otherwise be blocked on other, deeper, teams.

I was working on another scenario where that offer was made.....lol.....
