not likely to happen, but would be cool to see the leafs with a Crosby-Malkin like 1-2 punch up the middle.

Only 3.7mil in cap left so the leafs would have to trade the last year of Marleaus contract, and let Beagle, Gardiner, and Hainsey walk the following year to fit in the extensions to Matthews and Marner (approx 15mil more)
and fill in the gaps with cheap vets/elc rookies
like Liljegren, Johnsson, and Grundstrom

Brilliant, for one year. Even if you think he'd give TO a huge hometown discount (he's getting $12+), then what? Matthews will want same/more money than Eichel ($10) and McDavid ($12.5). Marner, Gardner and Borgman all need to be re-upped with raises. Unless the cap goes to $90M, the Leafs will be shedding assets at fire-sale prices because every team will know the predicament. One and done, if you're lucky.

Well you didn't pay the performance bonuses from 2017/18, and to fit in all the big RFAs you have include the 2018/19, and alway have Horton's salary on the opening day 2018/19 roster, So that's 14m that has to added to 2018/19 opening day roster. The reality is the Leafs have 8m for UFA signings next year....which includes JVR (why the Leafs would sign him long term, I don't know).

Good luck signing John Tavares he'll want at least $12 million especially if the salary cap goes to either $80 million or $82 million Marner and Nylander will get at least $6.5 million per Matthews $12 million per JVR wants $6 million per to resign back in Toronto you need to add D not more expensive centers like Tavares.
