why does Detroit care they ain't making the playoffs this year and he's a UFA so it doesn't affect them at all if he stays within the division

There's already supposedly 8 teams after Green, The Leafs, Kings, Islanders, Lightning, Penguins And 3 others there's no way he'd only return a 3rd round pick. I'd do a 2018 2nd round pick+prospect that's the least or a 2018 2nd+2019 2nd or late 1st round pick but a 3rd isn't happening.
