Description
First of all, the problem with Montreal core leadership group is not able to step up when the team is having a hard time. Therefore, we need to change the offensive leaders of the team. I do realize that these trades include injured players and also players with NMC or NTC but I still think that they are possible. But then again, what are the chances that they really happen anyway, Also, I screwed up on the salary cap by putting it at 80 million right away but all the salaries still fit under 75 million.

To start off, the first trade is just balancing off a previous trade that was made.

Now the first real trade, Pacioretty vs Fiala, Tolvanen and a fifth round pick that goes up a round for every playoff round Nashville wins this season.
The reason I think this trade is possible is that this year and next year are the 2 years that Nashville have to win the cup, because Ellis and Rinne will need new contracts and also the fact the Rinne is only getting older. With Pacioretty, who will become a top goal scorer again once he doesn't have the pressure to be the main goal scorer and will also not be the most watched player every game. The bidding price will go high and they will have no choice but to give this much. People will say that Tolvanen is a better option from the KHL but he has not proven anything in the nhl and nhl size rinks yet either.

Second trade is the the nuclear bomb of trades, the trade with the Islanders is a huge trade where they give a lot away but they don't actually touch the core of their powerful offence. The reason why they would do the trade is because an elite goalie is what they are missing and are willing to give everything for it. They also want Tavares to stay and im pretty sure that having Price it would help a lot. Mtl helps them out by taking on Boychuk's contract and that will free the cap space to resign Tavares and Bailey while taking on Price big new contract, the second round pick is to motivate mtl to take his contract. Schlemko is to compensate for the lost of 2 Defence and they take 1 contract from mtl in exchange. On Price side, he would accepte because he is tired of losing and knows Montreal will have to go to trough a rebuilding phase witch he will not want live with all the media complaining all the time. Montreal gains 2 good offensive prospect, 1 good defensive one and possibly 2 first round pick depending if the islanders make the playoff next season and a second round pick.

The third one is where a lot (more) people would complain. First of all, Pittsburgs are open to trade Letang and Montreal would be a team he would be willing to go play for since he is from the region. His value is lower then they would like since he is always injured and 1 concussion away from retirement. Not many teams would be able to take his contract and that Letang would be willing to go play for. Hagelin is a 4 million contract that they want to get rid off and finally Sheahan is traded because they will receive an upgrade from the trade. From Montreal, they will the amount of money they have to retain some salaries of 3 of the 4 players implicated due to the maximum of retained contract allowed. Plekanec will have half of his salary retained and will be a perfect 2 way center that Pittsburg will need during the reminder of the season and the playoff by taking on the opposite team top lines and freeing up Crosby and Malkin. Montreal will keep half of Halak's salary and he will become the second goalie that they need so that they wont have to live with 2 rookie goalies. Shaw will have 1 million of his salary retained and will bring some depth to the Pinguins offence being on pace for a 20 goal season and is also very good in the playoff and will be a good deal at 2.9 million. He can also help out in the center. Finaly, Petry is a good top 4 defence that can move well the cup and is safe defensively most of the time. Only the 2 last players have a contract after this season.

The fourth trade makes sense because what the oilers need is a number 1 defence and what they have a lot is centers. So the trade makes sense that way and we also take Sekera contract in exchange( he is playing on the third defensive pairing now), witch helps them out and we give Sheahan that will replace Nugent-Hopkins in the center position. The draft pick is because a number 1 defense is really rare and Nugent-Hopkins is not an elite offensive player.

The fifth trade is a trade that meets what Pheonix are demanding, a medium potential prospect who has not had a good season, and after a 18 goal rookie season, lekhonen is not having a bad season, the pick is extra since he has not had the succes Duclair had his first season..

The sixth trade is more of random trade, I saw on an other post that Dallas would be willing to pay a good price for a cheap forward the can produce and thats what Byron is with 22 goals last season and on track for and other 20+ goal season for a little over 1 million per year for 1 more years after this year. We give a little extra to balance the trade out with a depth defence that has some NHL experience and a 5th round pick.

Finaly, the last trade is one that will help Detroit out with the Cap space by taking Helms contract and also giving a prospect for a second round pick.

In the end, MTL would have up to 9 or 10 Draft picks in the 2 first rounds, would have received some solide prospects, they would have a lot of free cap space and would finaly have a number 1 center.
Mtl can then rebuy Sekera's or Boychuk's contract at the end of this season or the next one. They will also have the money to resign our players and get a new goalie to fight with Lindgren for number 1.
Habs may be bad for 1 more season but after that, they will be a top team with all the prospects and the players they wil already have.
Montreal would also have 2 first round pick in 2019 and possibly 2 second round pick also if Nashville loses in the stanley cup finals.

Edmonton. Don't like it, don't hate it. But the thing is we cannot take on that long of a contract for that much money. I don't understand all the technicalities behind retirement and if you are able to remove that salary then or not so if someone could clarify that then maybe.

The pens would probably love to take that deal in theory but would still say no. And there is no way another team is taking on that Weber contract and getting screwed after he retires.

I just think if that's the cost of Pacioretty (might be) then it's gonna be hard to find anyone willing to pay it. Fiala has been great with Turris and Tolvanen is a scoring machine.

From what i know, since he signed his contract before the age of 35 then there will be no penalties on the salary cap once he retires.
