Description
This is more of a rant about the utter abuse Ken Holland put his fans through toward the end of his tenure in Detroit. It is the result of an amalgamation of incomplete and maniacal scenarios based entirely in the desperate imagination of a tortured fan.

OTT
  1. Cholowski, Dennis
Détails additionnels:
Detroit traded Pavel Datsyuk's contract to Arizona and the 16th overall pick (Chychrun) for an annual postcard from Joe Vitale and the 20th overall pick which they used to draft Cholowski.

Datsyuk had already expressed a great desire to return home to Russia to finish out his career and be closer to his daughter but Holland pushed the issue and got a 3 year, 7.5 deal done. He left for Russia with one year left on it and we got the Cholo.
2.
VAN
  1. Zadina, Filip
Détails additionnels:
I know, Zadina fell from the heavens and the #3 projected draft slot all the way down to 6th so we just couldn't pass him up. Except for the fact that Detroit had zero good D prospects and there was a guy available with the last name Hughes who, I'm starting to suspect, might be related to the Jack Hughes that was being projected as a first overall, generational talent from the time he was a fetus. Think his siblings might be OK at hockey?
3.
MTL
  1. Rasmussen, Michael
Détails additionnels:
Ras has turned out to be a decent player but a complete WTF for a 9th overall. It's not his fault that he was the first to get picked in Ken Hollands legendary "Themed Draft" of 2017 where the only job skill necessary was largeness.
4.
MIN
Detroit picked and, subsequently, mismanaged Evegeny Svechnikov at 19. JEE went one pick later at 20th. Brock Boeser and Travis Konecny were drafted shortly after but Detroit's North American drafting has been largely trash so I figure Hakkan Andersson would have rolled the Eriksson Ek crumb in front of Ken only to have it rejected because "Multiple last names is for the Spains."
    5.
    TBL
February 21st is day riddled in tribulation for mankind.

-1848 Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels publish the Communist Manifesto
-1916 The Battle of Verdun begins. The result will be over 300,000 dead and another 400,000 wounded.
-1973 Israeli Fighter Jets shoot down Lybian Arab Airline Flight 114, killing 108 people
-2012 In a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Kyle Quincey is acquired by the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for the 19th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Quincey, considered a depth defenseman, would put up an impressive 3 points in the remaining 18 games of the 2011-2012 season. The memory of this kind of production proves as a great source of comfort for Wings fans when they're forced to watch the little-known player Tampa Bay chose with that 1st round pick...Andrei Vasilevskiy.
      6.
      TOR
Holland let Jarn overcook in the minors until he soured on the organization and then traded him away as part of a package for David Legwands knees.
        7.
        DAL
In part of a trade to acquire the individual pieces of Eric Cole's spine, the Red Wings traded away the 49th pick in the 2015 draft. Dallas turned that pick into Roope Hintz and Detroit got 11 games out of Cole before he hung em up for good after a(nother) neck injury.

They still don't get Vasilevskiy TB thought he'd still be there at 19 because he was a goalie and the whole KHL thing ,but Steve Yzerman said if he hadn't had 19 he would have taken Vasilevskiy at 10 instead of Koekkoek.

I can feel your pain dude. Our 2020 draft could've been one of the best draft classes EVER and Dorion screwed it up. Timmy #3, Sanderson #5, Ridly Greig #29, ROBY JARVENTIE #33 ( PETERKA SHOULD'VE BEEN THE PICK AND HE WENT THE VERY NEXT PICK TO BUFFALO) #44 TYLER KLEVEN ( BROCK FABER WENT THE VERY NEXT PICK TO LAK)

We could've literally went Stutzle, Sanderson, Greig, Peterka, and Faber and this team would've been frigging loaded right now. Peterka had synergy with Timmy, they've played together and were good together. We were desperate for RD still and they decided to take another LD in Kleven over Faber. Both Faber and Kleven played together on the USA teams so Dorion clearly scouted him but this bald goofball decided he only wanted bigger players and thus took size over skill.

That would have gone down as an all time draft. Would be a cool exercise to see what each team’s “best” draft could have been if consisting of players taken with the pick directly after. I would imagine a lot of sad stories of “what if”

Man it literally hurts me to think about frown Then the following year he takes Boucher at #10 then proceeds to trade our next two lottery picks lol.

I'm sure there's a bunch of other teams that share that same pain haha
