Description
I’m gonna assume no one wants Seabrook, but maybe if he were to play with an two way defenseman who is fast and good offensively (like Karlsson, but obviously he isn’t going to Ottawa), he’d be more effective. Too much is expected out of him in Chicago.

At a glance, LA and SJ may make some sense. San Jose could be along the lines of Braun for Seabrook, with something small added on either side to balance it out. LA, not sure, but another veteran defender on the right side wouldn't hurt them, and they do have some cap room depending on what they move out. SJ seems more reasonable out of the two.

Braun and a 2nd for Seabrook with $1.5-2 million retained. Something like that.

If too much is expected out of Seabrook now, what is going be like at the end of his contract in 6 plus years? To me he's just not going to hold his value.
Walaxer19....welcome back. San Jose has 8m Burns and for some reason has Vlasic signed to 7m per for 8 years starting next year, Seabrook is way too pricey an addition on defence.

Agree, if they take on all of the contract. I'd propose the Hawks retain around $2 million...then SJ is only adding about $1 million on the books.

I think the only viable option is a team that is just starting a rebuild. Someone like the Vancouver Canucks (who most likely free up 14 million when the sedins retire) Avalanche, Islanders or Hurricanes. Someone who can afford to have an atrocious contract on the books because they have so many entry level contracts. The only way to move Seabrook (if he is willing to move his no trade) is to give him away with some draft picks to make it worth taking him, probably with some retained salary. Essentially your buying him out with draft picks to get him off the books.

I picture a Seabrook deal as something like
Seabrook a 2018 1st round, 2019 2nd round, for Eric Gudbrandson

Best idea I've heard yet. I would guess there would still be retained salary though. And for the Hawks even if they retain 2 million per year they are coming out on the positive side of it. They can sign someone for 3 million to be as capable or better than Seabrook down the line.

In all honesty a Seabrook trade would almost certainly be on a July 2nd (post signing bonus) and include 1st-2nd round draft picks, an A level prospect or good rookie, and retained salary. Possibly even a terrible contract for shorter term coming back. The reason Hawks would retain is because retaining salary ends up being cheaper and more consistent than both a buyout and a Seabrook retire. I'm not sure how something like this gets done.
