Karlsson takes less money to have a competitive team and so does Duchene, like stamkos


seeing that the cap will be going up this offseason, and the chances of the cap increasing again the year after that (when Karlsson and Duchene become UFA), Karlsson at $11mil-$12mil might be him taking a discount sadly. As for Duchene, $7mil does sound realistic and would count as taking a discount, if he reaches his 70pts self, the norm imo would be to ask for $8-$9mil AAV.
