I guess Matthews isn't getting any goals, since the Leafs will be on the PK so much with those Reaves cross check penalties.
For a player who big time puck possession, Matthews doesn't get hit much. He's a master of stripping the puck from players, especially Dmen along the boards, and then with his big body, shielding the puck and his stick from defenders. Matthews doesn't hit that much either. But again he's a master of leaning his big body on players to squeeze them off the puck.
When a player "hits" he often loses his leg momentum and they isn't so effective even if the puck is retrieving. Retrieving the puck with speed control of your body is a premium asset.
Matthews reminds of Crosby. Using his strong core and legs, to maintain balance and puck control.
