Where does this team go from here

From what Conroy said, the plan is to get competitive again for the new building in 2027. Moreover, the plan seems to be going after free agents that can be flipped, and or benefit from an increased role on a short term deal.

I expect the Flames will be looking to sign a defensive defensemen in free agency, and do a lot of bargain hunting. Including taking players on bad contracts for the right compensation.

As far as trades go, I expect one of Vladar and Markstrom to move before the start of the next season.

The Flames also have too many wingers, so Mangiapane is likely the odd man out. Kuzmenko will be traded at the TD, likely with retention. Sharangovich will either be signed in the offseason, or also become trade bait.

As far as the D go, Weegar won't be traded. Andersson should be traded to maximize assets, but I don't see it happening. Kylington is probably going to be re-signed for 1-2 years at his current cap hit.

I expect the Flames to have the 6th-7th overall pick in 2025, and the 8th in 2024.

Actually Calgary's pick would have to be outside the top 20 for Montreal to get it. No danger of that happening Montreal will be getting Florida's 2025 pick unless it's a top 10 pick.

That's almost exactly how I see it. The only difference is I'm not sure the 2025/26 picks will be that high.

He meant next years pick, if ours isn't top 10 then Montreal likely gets it.

Since moving on from Tanev and Hanifan the team is 3 and 11 I think. They're not going to be able to replace them in free agency, so I can't see the Flames not picking in the top 10 in 2025.
