Potato, Potahto. Overrated and Overhyped is the same thing. MTL are not gonna be the team that gives much for Z. With Cole, Nick, Slaf, Dach, 2024 1st, Roy, he’s not even near guaranteed a true top 6 spot in 3-5 years

Trevor Zegras first 180 games: 49 goals, 90 assists, 139 points, -39
Cole Caufield first 180 games: 72 goals, 57 assists, 129 points, -39

Caufield watch: 16 points in 18 games will get him to 146 points in 200 games. And that's with Zegras having played 14 of his 19 completed games this season (he played 3 shifts before breaking his leg in his 20th game) with a groin injury that eventually landed him on the LTIR list.

Here is the list of the things about Zegras that lower SIGNIFICANTLY his value that you conveniently left out of your post :

1. He is one of the worst player defensively IN THE WHOLE GODDAMN LEAGUE

2. He is fifth on the Ducks’ forward chart in value and would be lower on most teams

3. Look at the last young guy who had 2+ 60 pts seasons and who is 1000000000X better defensively. That’s right, he has 26 pts and is currently getting paid 8,5m…

4. He has been injured quite a lot lately so injury history scare GM

Here is a thing about Zegras that should up his value that you didn’t mention :

He sells a lot of Jersey and generate a lot of revenue for the team.



In conclusion, anybody who would trade for Zegras would get a one dimensional 60 pts C but sells a lot of Jerseys. The price to acquire him should be around a mid to late first, a A- prospect, a ok roster player and some complementary picks

Rather look at how a player is now, then the past. Not saying Zegras doesn’t bounce back, but no guarantee that he catches up to Caufield’s steady development (BTW, ever since MSL came in, Cole has been unquestionably better than Zegras so if you are gonna find an excuse for Z this year, I’ll find an excuse for Caufield as well)
