Swapping two players who have the same contract term and clearly aren't a fit on their current team. Mikheyev has a M-NTC with a 12-team no trade list, but we're assuming he's fine with going to a different situation where he gets more playing time and would waive if Columbus is on his list.

He's barely an NHL player, I don't think he'd ever be much more than a 3RD but he does have some tools if the right team/coach took a chance on him. But the question is would you rather have him, or a guy your coach hates and only plays 7 minutes a night who makes $2M more? You could sign any number of effective 4th-liners that are a better fit for $2M, and VAN gets more flexibility going forward.
