Description
Beyond being a 1-line team, this team has been on a 0.500 pts pace all season but with injuries and the Monahan trade, they are spiraling to the floor and may actually drop below 5th last.

30 games to drop 18 points in the standings is not realistic, but I can see the Habs getting passed by Ottawa, Buffalo, and Columbus. We can totally drop 8 points, and here's how!

1) If Guhle is remotely hurt... Keep him out of the lineup, for as many games as possible.

2) Trade Savard. He is too good of a leader to let them give up, and that's kinda what they need to do to drop so many points.

3) Keep Allen and play him. He's not great. Rather than getting a 3rd - 5th for him, use him to drop in the standings.

Then just keep doing what you're doing. The team will lose a whole bunch. Let Math, Zuke, CC, and Slaf play as many minutes as they can handle and beef up their personal stats.

Notes:

Sent Roy down once Gally is back.
Called up Barron & Mailloux until Guhle, Harris, Reinbacher, or Hutson arrive.

Columbus is battling to many injuries, I don't think there's any way we catch them. Buffalo and Ottawa should definitely pass us in the standings by the end of Feb but that's just wishful thinking until it happens.

Can't trade guys away yet unfortunately, just don't have enough bodies to fill a line up the way the injuries are going. Maybe they take some bad contracts to fill out the line up but they should be getting paid to take those contracts and those contracts can't be past next year.

Ultimately they need to clear roster spots for next season. Beck, Mesar, Hutson and Reinbacher should all be NA next year. Hutson and Reinbacher likely in the NHL, Beck and Mesar in the AHL.

I actually do not expect Hutson in the NHL until 2025-26, except for the games to burn a year this season. He'll need some time to adjust to the speed. His biggest asset is his processing speed, but when the games get fast in the pros, it can take some time to catch up.

For Reinbacher, I could see him in Montreal because of the pedigree and the RHD factor, but I would prefer he also take a year in Laval.

Anyway, I hear you on bodies. I just keep thinking: what does it cost to move from 7 to 4 in the draft. Answer: A lot more than you're getting for Allen, Pearson, Savard.

The best "asset management" move at this point, is to get the best possible draft pick.
