Maybe Allvin and Co. are planning to move Poolman's contract once Soucy and Brisebois are back from injury. Unless LTIR problems continue for Vancouver, it makes sense to move Poolman's contract. If I were them, I'd look to do it in early January to maximize the cap space for the Deadline. Comparable deals involving other LTIR players like Weber and Voracek saw late-round picks with players coming back, I'd imagine the Canucks do this for Future Considerations, maybe an ECHL/AHL defenseman who can help out Abbotsford.

I'm going by the date of January 4th; it leaves 104 days left in the season and would allow VAN a week or so to gauge if Soucy is fully recovered or not (also in case of injuries in the interim).

If Vancouver goes this route, it would enable them to begin accruing cap space. Now for 63 days (104 days remaining as of Jan. 4th to 41 days remaining on Mar. 8th [TDL], that would enable the Canucks to acquire contracts at about 2/3rds value. With a cap space of approximately 2.019M, that could enable the Canucks to add a bigger contract (up to 3.005M) without having to send a cap hit back, or add two low-cap hit skaters at the deadline.

Cap space/Days Remaining x Total Days in Season = Cap Accrual Amount

Because Vancouver's accrual has been on pause since the season open due to LTIR, they don't have the same accrual date as a team that had been completely healthy since.

For a healthy team from the season open to TDL, the calculation would be:

2.019M/41 x 192 = 9.545M

I want to reiterate this is based on the Canucks being so lucky that they have no players on LTIR for the rest of the season, however, even if they had 31 days with cap accrual, that would allow for an extra 100k in cap space.

Perhaps that Future Consideration is used to allow the Canucks a final look at Matt Dumba, to allow them to match or succeed on a bid for the RHD.
