Description
Part two, and yes I have little issue with using the Avs picks IF it brings in what the Avs need. The Avs don't draft or develop particularly well outside the first round and even then have been mixed if it's beyond the top 10.
Transactions
1.
COL
  1. Benning, Matthew
Détails additionnels:
Benning could be the perfect foil for Byram imo and on a cheap deal going forward with the Avs being up against the cap.
SJS
  1. Meyers, Ben
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2025 (COL)
Détails additionnels:
I've seen Benning valued at anything from a 3rd to a 6th on here. I've gone with the top end and thrown in a prospect as it's a year out. Meyers would likely get more of a shot with the Sharks.
2.
COL
  1. Helleson, Drew
  2. Lyubushkin, Ilya
Détails additionnels:
Avs add a defensively capable cheaper guy in Lyubushkin for the rest of the season. Love Manson but the cap is the issue. Also a Russian friend for Big Val. Re-acquire Helleson who, imo, is the better potential future partner for Behrens being more defensive with some offensive upside.
ANA
  1. Malinski, Sam
  2. Manson, Josh
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2026 (COL)
Détails additionnels:
No issues with either of these players except for Manson's cap hit. Purely a case of what I think works better and removing some of that hit going forward. Malinski is more offensive vs defensive and Manson is still the best player in the deal. The second for the cap difference (and any perceived difference between Helleson and Malinski) may be an overpay but imo is worth it to get it done. Manson waives and effectively goes 'back home' after being a long term rental, and Malinski gets to play for Cronin, who IIRC was one of the reasons he signed for the Avs initially before he got the head coach job in Anaheim.

Nah, the Ducks will pass on that all day every day. They acquired Helleson for a reason and while Manson is a fine player having that cap space to throw at a UFA forward in the summer is better.

Fair comment. I think the value is fair in itself, but for sure if the Ducks value Helleson that highly that's understandable and I can certainly see the cap space argument.

Ducks have a pretty good plan for the defense, both the right and the left side. On the right they've got Drysdale, Gudas, and Luneau. Helleson takes the opening from trading Lybushkin. Clogging that up with 32-yr old Mason for three more seasons would be counter productive (IMO).

On the other hand they really need another top notch winger. They have the cap space to take a run at Nylander if they really want to.

All makes good sense though Manson would (imo) be an upgrade on Gudas if you could move him (that contract to me is worse, though the Ducks have the cap space to absorb it currently) and then Malinski takes Lyubushkin's spot instead of Helleson (Malinski is arguably more NHL ready as he's playing now but a lot depends on perceived values and styles). A lot would depend on who you're looking to pair with whom when it comes to Malinski vs Helleson.

The cap space argument in itself certainly makes sense though they'd likely still have that anyway.

Ducks have no reason to consider that trade tbh, they keep Helleson
